Module 1

First video was very informative for me. It was useful to revise anatomy for the hips and the main medical conditions that may have place. I really liked the hip assessment methods. I tried them on a friend who asked for neck massage (his neck muscles were very stiff). His left hip turned out to be more restricted and stiff as well as the left side of the neck.

Hi Julia, welcome to our forum and the Thai Hip Therapy certification program. Please take a minute and familiarize yourself with our certification check list to make sure that it is all correctly organized:

Certification Check List

I already changed your display name to your full name to make sure that you are easy to find.

I  read that you have some experience with Thai Massage from TMC. I imagine that the hip assessment was not taught at TMC in Chiang Mai. This course will be more in depth about hip issues. Smile

Hi Shama, thank you for doing it. Indeed, the hip assessments you offer in this course is really unique! Smile

Module 2

This module I practiced on a receiver who had tightness in her right hip. I think when performing the rocking techniques I used a bit more pressure than needed and practiced longer that was needed so receiver had some numbing sensation in the lower legs. For some reason stationary circling movement she liked better then circling combined with rocking. The next day she contacted me and said that that her tightness in the hip decreased. Smile

Try to work in a fluid and light way when doing rocking moves. Rocking doesn’t go well together with heaviness. The main thing is to find the right speed and rhythm that feels good to the receiver. That’s a matter of experimenting with it and getting feedback.

Thank you, Shama, I will keep it in mind now.

Module 3

I got a good feedback for techniques from this module – they were performed with good amount of pressure and I was told that pressure with the whole body felt really nice.  Receiver also mentioned that pressing  and rolling with forearm and cross-fiber rolling with knee was his favorite.

It is amazing how much of a difference it makes when you apply pressure with your body weight instead of with muscle pressure – like night and day! Smile

Module 4

Love the concept of the hip pie, so clear and easy to remember! Smile The part one – traction was a bit hard to perform as well as two last techniques (even if I support my arm with my thigh) as the legs of the receiver are big and heavy and I am quite small. The receiver said that techniques felt pleasant and nice, the stretching felt good and he felt a sort of buzzing sensation of energy in the hips.

If you work on someone with really heavy legs, sometimes you just have to skip some techniques. The first rule is to make sure that you take care of your own body, otherwise you can’t help others. The motto is that the techniques are options to choose from, not mandatory sequences.

May be I can use pillows for support instead of holding legs it’s probably less effective but would be safer for me Smile

Module 5

The receiver (she was yoga type) liked all the stretchings. After the blood stop she felt very nice warm sensations in the legs. During slice #4 stretch she also felt it as a pulling sensation in the opposite side in the low back area.

Module 6

It was a nice video to practice. It looks like I did a good job – the recipient liked it and he has a feeling like after a good stretch. Very good variations of the stretching technics for a small practitioner!

Module 7

Receiver enjoyed stretching a lot. Especially slice #8 combined with rocking and the last one  –  rotation of the hips counterclockwise as he has exactly the case of slight stiffness – it was perfect for him!Smile. He noticed improved circulation and buzzing sensation in the hips after the session.

Thank you, Shama, it’s very nice to hear!

Module 8

First time I practiced,  the feedback was positive only by the end of the module. But I as practiced for the second time I improved and every technique felt very nice.

Thank you Shama, it’s because you explain everything really good!Smile

Module 9

Receiver really enjoyed all the technics on the side position. The technics in the prone position were not as enjoyable for him and for me they were a bit hard to perform. I definitely need more practice with them. After the practice receiver noticed tingling and warm sensation in all of the hip area.

Module 10

Very interesting rocking stretch is the beginning of the video! I will have to practice it more until it becomes more fluid. I am wondering if slow motion version of this stretch is also quite effective? The last stretch felt amazing for the receiver.

There are three ways how you can do this stretch:

1. The rocking version as shown in the video
2. A slow version as you suggested.
3. A one directional pull only without the circular motion

The slow version will also be effective, however in my experience the rocking version is more effective since it engages more of the body and is better at loosening up the hip due to the fluid motion. The rocking is also harder to resist on the receiver’s side.
