module 2
I have to mention I am a Chinese. It is the first time i hear about the Chi Machine. It seems quite easy to get the idea of how to practise it. I think it is a good opening for doing massage. However, after doing the swing my wife's body, she does not feel any particularly good for her. I guess swing her hip and her entire body may help her to relax before going further.
Hi Wahing, welcome to our forum
The word "Chi Machine" is a western invention since there is actually a machine on the market which has this name. I named this movement after this machine since the effect is basically the same.
The Chi machine will only feel good if it is done without any effort, in a very natural flowing way. You can tell if the effect is there if your partner experiences a pleasant tingling in the body after you stop the movement. You have to do it for at least 30-60 seconds to get this effect.
If you do it with too much effort, the client won't feel anything, or even worse, it will feel annoying. So this move is quite subtle, actually, and may take quite a bit of practice to feel just right.

Module 3.
This is very excellent video. Thank you again Shama.
When I do foot massage for my wife based on what i learn from module 3, she likes it very much. The way to do foot massage required body and hands coordination, but when i get used to it, it is so effective and smooth. The video has shown the technique step by step. It makes me easier to grasp the basic principle.
In this video, I learnt how to strectch the tibialis anterior and the foot, and even the achilles tendon. It makes me know how to increase the flexibility of ankles. It is excellent!

Module 4
Shama,I get some questions. First, in this module, I find you use the thumbs. Will this hurt my thumbs if I do massage for a long period of time as massage Therapist? Using thumbs on my wife's feet is very easy and she feel comfortable too. However, using thumbs on big mascles and doing it everyday may be another story.
Second, how to determine the time interval of using each technique? My wife likes the module 3 and 4. She also has neck problem. How to allocate the time of doing massage on different parts of the body?
Third, is it no good for the client or my wife to receive massage right after meal?
best wishes

My wife was trying to do the technique in module 3 and 4 for me. She is small and she couldn't do very well. Actually, it was a bit clumsy. I did a bit better than her. I guess the reason is I have strong muscles. However, I still can't do very smooth. I am glad this is a home study online programme. I can watch the video mant times.
Wahing, you should always be careful how much you use your thumbs. It really depends on the individual. Some people never get thumb problems, and others get problems easily. The idea is to use thumbs only as much as necessary, but when you work on big muscles then you should use other body parts as much as possible.
This is easily done in Thai Massage since you can work with hands, forearms, elbows, knees and feet. You will learn a lot more about that throughout this course.
Regarding time intervals, personally I don't have any at all. I might just work on someone's neck, or only on someone's shoulders, or mostly on the hip, or any combination of these.
In the beginning it is important to learn the entire sequence to build up your repertoire of techniques. But the longer you practice and the better you get, the more you can be selective and creative with the techniques.

Module 5
this module is easy to learn. I like the part Shama mntions about how to use my foot to lock the client's ankle. It is very useful beause it can keep the clinet's leg stable and make me to work on the leg effectively. Another thing is about the breathing. It is easy to necglect the way of how to breathe when doing massage.

Module 6
This module mainly focus on the thigh. For normal person, I don't think I will spend too much effort on massaging the thigh. Most people will not need to have massage mainly due to tight muscles on thier legs. However, I think the techniques I learn in this module should be very useful, especially I have a lot of friends who like running and hiking. I am glad Shama mention about how to use the elbow to work on IT Band. Most people do not know the tight IT band could be the main cause of knee pain.
Running, hiking, dancing, biking, ballet - all these benefit from leg work. Also according to the Asian energy system model, there are energy lines that run throughout the entire body, and that's why working on the legs also has an effect on the rest of the body, even if the client does not have any specific problems in the legs.

Yes, Shama. The reason I like doing Thai massage is because I can use my entire body to do it. For Chinese Tui Na, I have to use my hands, thumbs and fingers a lot. That is the thing I do not perfer.
In module 7, it is nice to learn how to examine the legs. Before doing massage, I think we have to understand the client's body first. Elephant walk is interesting and effective technique. Yes, slow is the key. In the second half part of this module, other than learning how to stretch the client's leg, I also learn how to use my feet to do massage on the client's legs. It saves me energy when doing massage. Last technique is like rocking. I will keep in mind that when pulling the leg in a circle, I have to be gentle and soft.

In module 8, there are some stretching techniques. I like the way to squeeze the calf and to loosen up the hip joint. However, I like module 7 more, especially I can use my feet to do massage on my wife's hamstring. It is not easy to release the tightness of hamstring, I even modify it to use my ball of foot to do massage on her IT band.
Yes, foot work is great for hamstrings. You can use the center part of the foot, or the ball, or the heel. You can use straight pressure, or rocking movements, or back and forth movements, or even circular movements. You will see all those when you get to the "Body Mastery" bonus module at the end of the course.

It seems this course is getting more interesting!
Module 9. It is true the stiff musles can reduce the range of motion. The stiff muscles also hinder the supply of blood, oxygen and nutrients. These are the reasons why stiff muscles cause discomfort. One thing I appreciate Shama very much is that he has been doing very good job on teaching how to keep good working position when doing massage. Again, in this module, the hamstring stretch is so effective. And I pay very close attention on how to keep my legs and hands in appropriate position, and keep the whole thing under control. In the last part, the spine stretching is much like the myofasical stretching.

Module 11 is a very nice summary. Other than the basic principles of Thai massage, it combines all the techniques. It takes 25 minutes to just finish the legs. I still can't do the whole sequence in one time. One thing for sure is that I am going to re-watch this module again and again. I think this is quite enough to consolidate what I have learnt from the previous modules.

In module 12, I saw Shama sitting on his partner! Her body has very high flexibility! I like the strong stretching in the last part of this module. It stretches the hip and the lower back as well. My wife tried to do this on me and she could make it so easy. She just walked a bit further and held my legs with her hands, then pressed a bit more. It made my hip and my lower back so relaxing!! With caution, I think everyone can do it.
