Hi !

Module 1 :

I have invested in a floor mat because my mother had both a table and a futon and I always preferred being massaged on the futon rather than the table.

She became a shiatsu massage therapist more than ten years ago so we’ve had numerous occasions to discuss the differences between the eastern energetic approach and western clinical one. I’m much more curious of a massage that would be also based on intuition instead of just deduction.

So, I used my new futon for the first time on one of my massage partners. I had told her I would need her help to practice. However, module 1 wasn’t really about any specific moves so I just focused on the anatomy of the move, the ergonomics and the breath which I tend to forget. I did compressions on the back and front of her legs just like in the video. It was both soothing for her and for me as I was juggling with the consciousness of my breath, all the information from under my palms and the shifting of my bodyweight to and fro. Challenging! Pleasant!

At first she told me it was a bit painful so I simply sat a little further from where I was so as to apply less weight. Afterwards she told me she felt more relaxed and said I could press just as hard as in the beginning. She ended up almost asleep lost in her thoughts!

In addition it’s already helping me with my body awareness.

Hi Thomas, welcome to our community and the Complete Thai Massage certification program. Please take a moment and familiarize yourself with our certification checklist to make sure that it is all correctly organized:

Certification Checklist

You have a great background with your mother doing Shiatsu and you having experienced all those sessions. That should help you a lot with this course. We have quite a few course students who have started with the Thai Massage training without being professional massage therapists, so you should be doing fine. Smile

Just recently we had a very enthusiastic course student who is about your age. You might want to read his thread for inspiration:

Michael Salcido's Thread

One advantage of not being a seasoned therapist already is that you don't have to unlearn anything - like being totally attached to working on a table, or muscling people instead of using your body weight to do the work for you. So you are starting with a clean slate, a good background with the right kind of experience, and the right attitude. That's what I call a good start! Smile

I am confident that this course will go a long way in helping you to become successful in your new career, and I am glad that I can assist you with this!
