I am glad to hear that this course is exactly what you need. There is a lot of very useful information in it which can really help with sciatica problems. I know, because my wife has sciatica and I use it on her.

From your bio it seems that you have a solid background in Thai Massage, so it will be easy for you to implement the material.

I am looking forward to reading about your progress with the course.

Well, in my various therapy courses I get into the anatomy of it, but I never thought of making a general anatomy course since there are so many of them out there. I would be just one among many. With my Thai Massage therapy courses however I know that I am presenting something quite unique that you can't just find all over the place.

The truth is that I have plenty of ideas for new courses which I would like to create. However it is quite a big undertaking to make one. I have been working on this sciatica course for at least two months solid. You wouldn't believe all the work that goes into the completed project.

Sometimes I have been thinking of making a course about anatomy for Thai Massage in a more entertaining way than the typical way how it is generally presented. One more project in my long list. Smile

module 2

i have just finished module 2.very educating.i liked the tests.very easy to do.

i did the tests on me.

leg stretch:it felt bad at hamstrings(very tight)and i felt pain in the buttocks and the lower back.

f.a.i.r test:i use to sleep in the side and as you mentioned many times i wake up in the morning with sciatica pain.i turned at the left side, put my knee towards my chest and again i feel a little pain in the buttocks.i put a pillow under my knee and i found out thai it gets better.then i put my hand on the knee pressing down and trying to lift my knee upwards.i felt pain in the piriformis muscle.wow i knew i had sciatica as i told you due to my day job,but know i'm sure.

toe and heel test:no pain to the lower back or hamstrings.i just felt tension below the knee(probably i need massage there).

i'd like to know if i can use some of what i will learn in this course to help my 7 1/2 months pregnant wife.

thank you Shama

It looks like you are living proof that the tests are working!

Regarding helping your wife - is there something specific that you want to help her with? Does she have any issues or any discomfort from the pregnancy? There is lots of Thai Massage work that works great for pregnant women in general. Of course the sciatica course is not focused on pregnant women. Since many of the sciatica techniques are done in the prone position, that does not lend itself to pregnancy massage which is ideally done in the side position or in a propped up supine position.

By the way foot massage is great for pregnant women since they have to carry all that extra weight around and it can really stress their feet. But that's a different course since it has nothing to do with sciatica. Arm and hand massage, neck massage, shoulder massage and head massage all work very well on pregnant women. Some of that can be done in a slightly reclined sitting position.

Working on the legs and the back is best done in the side position for pregnancy. But the short answer is that no, the sciatica course is not ideal for pregnant women - that's an entirely different approach.

module 4-5

Hi Shama,

i don't know what happened, I can't find my post for module 4. Anyway, yesterday i practiced module 4 and 5.

working in the groove with my fingers was easy and yet efficient for my receiver though she was a bit small i used my elbow but with low pressure and she did't complain. She liked very much the forearm circling and kinda was like a rocking move.

From module 5 i didn't do the thumb pressure on the buttock cause there is an ethic issue for touching a girl there.

The knee power move is fantastic. Easy to do and efficient. I found the transition from one side to the other magic.

now when i saw the working and buttocks technique with the forearm and elbow i said i know these moves.but you demonstate them a higher level that i was teached in the itc.i was teached that i lean and then stand up.you teach that i should lean and push.wow while i did it i thought i am one level up.

with the first technique(rocking the sacrum joint),i have to do it several times practice.when i perform this move i start good but somehow i loose the coordination of the 2 hands.and it is i think the best move in these 2 modules.i have to practice more.

today at night i have one more massage.i will see module 6 and try to make a session with all i learned so far...Laugh

The only way that a post can "disappear" is if it was not saved after writing it. That has happened to a few students who just forgot to press the button, or maybe by mistake pressed the "cancel" button next to the "submit reply" button.

I am glad to hear that your practice is working well and that you learn things at a higher level. However I don't understand what you mean when you say that there is an ethics issue with touching a woman's buttock with your thumbs.

I have used my thumbs on hundreds of women, and I never had a single complaint. I don't see any difference between using thumbs or forearms or elbows or knees on the buttocks. I really think that this is something which you need to get out of your mind. Touching the buttocks is just a therapeutic move. It is not like touching the breasts or the genital area.

Especially if someone really has sciatica problems, I am sure they don't care at all if you touch them with your thumbs or another body part as long as it helps them.

module 7-8

spinal twist:much more efficient than the one i used to do from the side position.the rocking move makes it more relaxingLaugh

hip circling:my model lena was very pleased with this move.she said it was releiving.and very easy to perform.

pigeon pose:i know already the move but i made it with rocking move and was not so painfull.

knee to opposite shoulder:with the rocking moves everything seems relaxing Shama.i now tend to do almost every move of thai massage with rocking.my clients prefer it.thanks

i try not to remember all moves when giving a therapy.sometimes i forget some of them and then do it the next time.i try not to give the same massage every time.i will try to send you a video for the sciatica course as soon as possible. i'd like to know your opinio and suggestions.

as for module 8?magic.as i told you i have sciatica and yesterday i exercised in front of my laptop.i feel my low back and legs better today.today i woke up easy and happy.i don'tknow if this is because i was releived or a placebo as u said, but it worked.i also like your suggestions for our clients.LaughLaughLaughLaughkeep up the good work...

I could not even imagine doing Thai Massage without rocking or motion techniques. It just works so much better and smoother and flows better. It is less painful or intense for the clients, and it is easier on the body of the therapist. You might be interested in the Thai Rocking Massage course which goes into much more detail and is one of our most popular courses.

I am so glad to hear that the sciatica course is such a perfect fit for you, and that it does not only help your clients, but yourself also. Smile

Shama thanks for module 9.i use to massage and heal with rei-ki.i never used qi gong.i will buy a book and use some tecniques.iuse sometimes herball balls.i make them my self but i use chinese ginger and not galanga.this is not sold in Greece.i liked guided visualization.my psycho therapist works this way and is very healing for me finding the energy blocks and letting the negative energy come out of my body.i will definitely use it in my next massage.i never thought it would work.great tips.thanks again.LaughLaughLaugh

p.s.you are a fantastic teacher.i wish i could come to Thailand and take a course with you.

i wish u health and prosperity
