Module 1

Hello, thank you for the great information. I directly did a back analysis to my partner. I didn't see anything directly but when lying his chin was quite up so I will stay aware of that. Also it was interesting to see how quite easy it is to spot scoliosis. Since I also have it I understood how some people could directly recognize. Also I try to observe people more now to see potential back issues and I have to say people in Zürich seem to have quite a good postureLaughLaugh or I cant recognize anything yet LaughLaugh

Welcome to the Thai Massage Back Therapy certification program. First, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our Certification Checklist to make sure that it is all correctly organized:

Certification Checklist

I am sure that over time, you will recognize more back issues just by looking at people. But it is definitely more obvious if you work on someone directly. And then again, maybe Zurich is a good karma city with more healthy people on average. SmileSmile

I used to live in Zurich a long time ago, but at that time I didn't focus on such things. But my suspicion is that you will find lots of people in need of good back work like everywhere else. SmileSmile

Module 2

Thank you for the great info. It was for example interesting to realize the importance and all the functions of the sacrum and the sacroiliac joints. I never thought about this body part so much. Looking forward to the massage techniques on this part now as well.

Most people never think about the sacrum and the sacroiliac joints, including professional massage therapists. But people typically really enjoy having their sacrum worked on, and this is really beneficial work.

And yes, everything is correct with your forum posts.

Module 3

Thank you for the great lesson. It was a good reality check with what massage can achieve. So basically when there is some tight muscles then most probably there will be some weak antagonist muscle? So we can usually help to go kind of only half way? I wrote myself down the quote "Yoga can strengthen muscles, massage can". I see now that the physical exercise is still needed to supplement the massage. Now when I know it it seems obvious but I didn't realize the connection before. Thank you.

Yes, it goes a bit deeper than 'press here and it will fix everything'. Thai Massage can do a lot of good, but if you look at a person holistically, there are other factors at play to improve someone's health, and we need to be aware of them.

Module 4

Thank you for the great techniques, they seem to be very relaxing to my massage partner. Keeping the squatting position is a bit challenging to keep but I believe I will get used to it as you mentioned in the lesson. But it is really nice to be a bit higher and have more leverage. I am quite small but I was able to make a good pressure and thanks to leaning with my whole body it also didn't feel straining to my shoulders or wrists.

Keeping the rhythm and the two hands coordinating is definitely something I have to keep focusing on. Sometimes I lost concentration and started for example circling with one hand in another directionLaughLaugh

Yes, it's like playing the piano where both hands are doing something different, but after a while, it becomes second nature to coordinate your body, the rhythm, and your movements.

Module 5

Thank you for the many techniques in this one. I like that you included the two classical thai massage moves  - thumbing in the grooves and the butterfly back palming because I love receiving these LaughLaughI like the horse gallop twist and my massage partner also liked it better.

It took me some time to localize the sacrum first, but coming back it wasnt a problem.

"I like that you included the two classical thai massage moves  - thumbing in the grooves and the butterfly back palming"  -  Some therapists have no problem using these, and some develop problems with wrists and thumbs. So I included the classical moves and alternative ways of working so that people have options. SmileSmile

Module 6

Thank you for the another great techniques on the sacrum. I enjoy working on the edges of the sacrum, they are quite easy to feel, especially the rolling and rocking up the sacrum it feels like the muscles on the sacrum edge are nicely kneaded. The elbow rocking on the edge of the sacrum was also great I felt like I can go a bit deeper and feel the muscles a bit more. I dont have experience but it felt like they could be a bit tense there. Also my partner told me he felt some tingling down the leg during that technique, hope thats ok?

No problem with tingling feelings. The only thing to be concerned about is if someone experiences a sharp pain. That goes for all Thai Massage techniques.

The sacrum rocking seems to be a quite powerful technique based on your explanation. Will definitely try to get the hang of it. I am not really sure if I felt the sacrum move. And also to smooth the transition from side to side of the client. The movement of the transition were not a problem but more keeping the awareness of both the hands and the rest of body. I also liked the combining of the circular rocking on glutes and the rocking on lower back SmileSmile

The sacrum rocking is one of those moves that takes a lot of coordination and a good flow to feel good. But once you get it, you and your clients will love it. SmileSmile

Module 8

Being able to use the knees for massages is so great. As a rather smaller person I think I will be using these quite a lot. Its also great to have the different pressure levels for different types of clients. I tried all on my massage partner and according to him I got to pressure levels around 6-7 on the 1-10 scale, on some tight spots even 9 and it started to be a bit painful. So I was quite happy that I was able do such pressureLaughLaugh

That's good to hear. Some of our students are afraid to use their knees, and some have a hard time feeling the right amount of pressure. Clearly you have a good feeling for this and no doubt you will get even better with it after practicing it more. SmileSmile

Module 9

It was great to get the information about what the problematic parts should feel like. Knowing what I was searching for I could really find some things. It was the easiest on the erector spinae muscles. I could find cords running parallel to the spine that were harder and thicker in the thorasic area and also some places that really felt like "crunchy".  On the other muscles it is more challenging, it is either quite bony or between the hip and low ribs quite soft.. Looking forward to train the feeling more.

I have a bit feeling I don't do the forearm techniques right. They dont do much to my massage partner. Will try to get into them and train them more.
