Module 23

Lately I have been working in a nursing home rehabilitation setting where mostly elderly patients are recovering from stroke, hip fractures, spinal surgeries or joint replacements.  Bed mobility is sometimes the first challenge I face with my patients.  I used your guidelines for moving patients from prone to side lying or supine, and from supine to prone.  I found that I could not move most of the patients' arms above their heads like you demonstrated for turning someone from prone to side lying.  So I just bring the arm down snugly along the body. The rest is the same.  It works almost as well.

I love the advice you give about instilling confidence in your patients/clients and focusing energy in a positive way.  I think it makes a difference if you love what you do and I truly love what I do.  I strongly believe in the healing power of touch and I am finding that most people respond positively to my treatments. They may not like every portion of the treatment (I must sometimes follow certain protocols), but I try to have at least one portion of the treatment be that of a loving, caring touch or massage.  I don't have years of experience, but I approach every patient as an individual and with sensitivity.

This was a wonderful course and have added a great deal to my "tool box."  Thank you Shama, I will be back soon for another course.

Wow, what a great sequence of posts! I can see clearly that you are "getting" the essence of the course, and not just the techniques. It is a pleasure reading about your experiences and realizations. Congratulations for completing this big course successfully!
