If your back is hurting, you are not moving with your entire body correctly. Think of moving with your body as one unit, not doing something with just one part of your body. Imagine that you are moving from your center and shifting your body gracefully like in a Tai Chi exercise or like in a dance.

I suggest you take one move, and play around with it until you really feel how your body is moving. If you feel stress like in your back, try to adjust your body mechanics until the stress is gone. Remember to only work with body weight instead of muscle power as much as possible. Focus on being relaxed yourself.

Module 11

This was very helpful! I enjoyed seeing the entire routine of massaging from the beginning the end. It really helped watching the flow of everything. It helped me to do the massages while you were doing them as well. Obviously not something to memorize because that is not what it's for, but it was nice to see the flow and movement of everything.

Module 12

My massage partner enjoyed all the exercises in this module. The deep stretch with her legs around mine and with her feet on my shins was too much on her knees. Is there a reason for that? Also, I had trouble making it comfortable for the both of us when I locked her knees between my legs. How do I make the lock more secure, but not uncomfortable?

Regarding this deep stretch - you are talking about one of the strongest and most intense stretches of the entire course. This is not meant for everyone. Many people who are rather stiff will have the same reaction as your practice partner. This technique is really only good for people with a pretty decent degree of flexibility.

The principle applies: 'The techniques are options to choose from, not mandatory sequences'.

That makes sense. She's is pretty flexible, so I wanted to try it out on her to see if she would like it or not. I wouldn't do that with just anybody.

I typed in two Module 11s. The second Module 11 should say "Module 12"

Module 13

I really enjoyed learning how to solve hip pain when it comes to these hip stretches. I experience the same kind of pain, so I understand how it feels. Just feels super tight and needs to loosen up.

My partner did not like the scooping or the finger circles in her hip. She said it felt uncomfortable and a but "ticklish". But she is someone with very flexible hips, so I am not sure if that causes her to not like the scooping or circles to loosen up her hips. How is the scooping and circles supposed to feel?

The scooping and circling feels good and relieving if someone feels acute pain in this area during the 180 degree hip pie stretch. If someone is very flexible, then there is nothing to fix there, and there is no point in doing the scooping on them. It might well feel annoying in such a scenario.

This is a techniques which is only meant to address a particular problem. If the problem doesn't exist, the technique should not be used.

Thank you for the explanation. Makes sense to not use the scooping technique on someone who is flexible in their hips.

Module 14

My partner enjoyed the massage movements in this module. I had a lot of trouble transitioning from side to side while doing the hip rocking movements. I do not think I'm flexible enough to move from side to side while being in a squatting position. It was easier for me just to extend my legs so they were straight, and then move over to the other side of my partner's body.

The transitioning does take a while to get used to. It is often challenging for course students. Then again, it is a refinement, but not an absolute necessity. So don't worry about it too much. Smile

I won't worry about it too much then!

Module 15

My partner really enjoyed this video. She thought the massages were calming and relaxing. Is it possible to do the elephant walk on girls in the chest area, but just on the lower part of their chest. I would want to try that for girls as well, but not if it will seem inappropriate.

Module 16

My partner really enjoyed the shoulder massages. I had a little bit of trouble keeping her hand in place with my foot while pushing her elbow back. Her hand kept turning outward instead of staying in line with her body. Is that okay? Or should I put more pressure on her hand with my foot?

I never thought of chest work as inappropriate. Actually I can't even come up with any reason that would make it inappropriate as long as the therapist has clean energy. Sure, chest work can be done on women as well albeit less than on men. The lower chest is easy, and the upper chest can be done to some degree as well. There are some techniques for just this scenario in our Heavenly Head Massage course which has a whole section about chest work. It is not covered so much in the Complete Thai Massage course - at least not for the upper chest.

Yes, put a little more pressure on the hand to keep it stabilized. The exception is if someone is so stiff that it would hurt the hand to be aligned properly. In that case you might have to skip this technique and use an alternate one. There is one in the sitting position which does the same thing but does not impact the hand in any way. You will get to that later in the course.

Great! Thank you for the info.

Module 17

My partner really enjoyed this section. She fell asleep while I gave the massage Laugh. I really liked the arm massage with the grip and twist from the top to the bottom of the arm. That was easy for me to do and really enjoyable for my partner. I only had an issue with my legs falling asleep from sitting on my shins for so long while doing the hand massage, so I had to change positions a lot. I am not sure how to prevent my legs from going numb from sitting on them.

You can change your sitting position. I do this as well when I start to feel uncomfortable from sitting too long in one position. Just improvise - sit on one leg and raise the knee of the other, or sit on your butt, fold one leg while stretching out your other leg, or try sitting cross-legged - whatever works. There are no hard and fast rules for how you have to sit.

Thank you for the tip!

Module 18

This module was very enjoyable for my partner. She said it is one of her favorites modules. I only had a trouble with the transitioning from side to side and when I stretched her arms while standing, it was uncomfortable with my grip. I think I may need to loosen up my grip or grab her somewhere else on her arms.

If you re-watch the video and hold her just how I showed, there should be no problem, and there is no need for a 'death grip'. Smile Alternatively you could hold her just below the wrist on the forearm, and she would do the same thing, interlocking the hands below the wrists on both of you.

That helps! Thank you.

Module 19

I really enjoyed this summary with the entire flow of the massages. It's nice to see how one massage leads to another. I am still having trouble with switching from side to side with the hip rocking and just staying in a low squat position. It start to hurt my hips and back if I stay in a low squat for awhile. Do you switch to the other side when you've done all the exercises to one side?

The idea is to stay on one side as long as possible before switching sides. In other words it is best to avoid unnecessary switching.

Maybe you could try to practice the switching on a large pillow instead of a live body, and really focus on doing it by just moving your weight instead of making an effort. The most crucial moment is when you rock back onto your toes by lifting your knee. If you don't drop your body weight back quickly when doing this, then it feels stressful to do this. If you shift your weight back quickly, then it is super easy to do.

Then practice moving across the pillow several times back and forth without ever dropping your knees. That makes the moving to the other side easier. In other words, break it up into two elements. Practice the rocking back on the toes separately, and then practice the moving across separately.

Module 20

This was really good to see. I really enjoyed the face cradle explanation and set up. Definitely made is nicer for my massage partner. Is there anything specific that needs to be done for clients with bigger breasts? Maybe a smaller pillow under their chest?

It's always best to have a few different sizes of pillows around. Then you can ask the client to choose what they feel most comfortable with.

That's a great idea! Thanks!

Module 21

This module is something my massage partner really enjoyed! Some of the positions were hard for me to hold because my hips are tight. Is there a way to do the higher hip massage on a man without hitting his gentile area? Also, what can be done if someone's hips were to cramp up in some of the positions?
