Now that's not an easy question to answer. A seriously sprained ankle can be a very severe condition and can take much longer to heal than a broken bone. I know that for a fact since I once had a badly sprained ankle. I was on crutches for a couple of weeks and it took several months to heal.

If someone has a badly sprained ankle, then stretches should definitely not be done. However if someone has a lightly sprained ankle, then you can do many Thai Massage techniques. Actually this is very specific therapy work which goes a little beyond what is covered in this course. However I do cover very specific ankle therapy work in my Thai Foot Massage course, if you are ever interested in going deeper with your therapy work.

Module 11

Thank you Mr Shama for this video. You are so graceful and make it look so easy.

I have been practicing what was taught in the previous modules but i take pauses to remember the stretches and i am not as graceful as you. I hope with practice i become better and capable of doing the stretches as graceful and composed as you do.

I have no doubt that with practice you will look more graceful. I am sure that when I first learned Thai Massage I did not look very graceful either! Smile

Module 12

Thank you Mr Shama for explaining in such a practical manner and for showing the various positions that a particular muscle can be stretched.

I could not perform the stronger hip stretch on my client because i noticed some discomfort when do the deeper hip stretch so i desisted.

She really enjoyed the elephant walking while holding and pressing her knees and said that she felt a release in tension in her lower back area.

when performing the stretch with both knees bent towards the shoulder at the opposite side, some discomfort was felt so i tried it using the rotating method that was shown and it became more pleasant for my client.i really appreciate that you show different techniques to perform the same stretch.

My client was unable to tolerate the stronger stretch of the hip so i just used the standing method and when closing she really enjoyed the rocking motion and swinging of the legs.

Yes, it is important to have more than one way to deal with a particular technique. There is an old saying: "If the only tool you have is a hammer, then everything looks like a nail". We don't want to be in a position in Thai Massage where we try to fit the clients to our techniques instead of us fitting the techniques to the client's body type and needs. Smile

Module 13

Hi Mr shama. When practicing the leg and hip stretches my client felt some pain close to the joint and along the hamstring but the stretch was gentle one so i used the scooping, wiggling and circular motion rubbing as well as the circular and rocking technique for approximately 7 minutes and she said it felt good and the pain reduced significantly. I then attempted the same stretch after doing the scooping and so on and i was able to stretch my clients leg more without any pain but i had to use the rocking from side to side while performing the stretch.

I am getting a lot of clients with sports injuries, sprains and dislocations. Do you offer any courses with respect top treating those things?

Many of my courses include excellent material for dealing with sports injuries. Sprains and dislocations can be quite serious issues and will take time to heal. Massage can definitely speed up the process.

I have many courses which focus on specific trouble areas, like the Thai Back Massage course, or the Knee therapy course, or the Ultimate Shoulder Massage course, etc. They will all take you deeper into therapeutic work.

Module 14

I combined the hip rocking technique together with the chi machine and my client really enjoyed this combination. When doing the hip rocking technique my client felt her si joint moving around a lot and was really happy at the end of the therapy.

Module 15

When i placed my hands on my client's belly, her breathing was similar to mine so i considered that to be normal however i noticed her abdominal muscles were contracted. As i did the techniques taught in this module she gradually relaxed and i was able to feel the contents below the muscles. Her belly area was hard and when i asked her about her bowel movements she said that she has to force to defecate when using the washroom.I spent a lot of time on her belly area and before i began pressing below the rib\diaphragm area she had to use the washroom and said that she didn't have to force when she used the washroom. She said that she was feeling a little dizzy so i gave her some water to drink and i let her rest for approximately ten minutes then we continued. The following day she called me and informed me that she had to used the washroom quite a few times that evening and she got a really good sleep that night.

Do clients often feel dizzy on completion of a belly massage?

This is an excellent result. I have had similar experiences with severely constipated clients. In some cases they had diarrhea for a couple of days which is a good thing since the body just flushed everything out after all this constipation.

There is a small percentage of people who experience some dizziness when you do a lot of rocking on the abdomen or hips.

Module 16

I practiced what was taught in this module on a friend of mine. His shoulder muscles were tense at the beginning of the session and complained of pain in his upper back.Because his shoulder muscles were tense i worked on them longer and i actually felt them getting relaxed and they became less tense.During the session i noticed his neck and head moving around and he said that felt really relaxing. At the end of the session he said that he felt really relaxed and wanted to sleep. He also said that his head felt alot lighter but still had the upper back pain.

Module 17

When i commenced the techniques taught in this module my clients forearm were tense.During the massage and stretches the forearm became very relaxed and less tense.I had to concentrate when performing the techniques because alot of moves were taught in this module. At the end of the session my client said her arm and hands felt very alive and she felt more strength in them but also very relaxed.I figured that was due to the increased blood and energy circulation in the arms and palms.

Module 18

At the end of the session using the techniques taught in this module my client said her shoulders felt really loose and her back felt great. It never felt this good in a long while was what she said. When practicing the shoulder stretches however she complaint of pain in her left deltoids but after doing the upper and lower spinal stretches she said the pain went.Standing with proper posture is really important because i was not practicing proper posture while doing the shoulder stretches and at the end of the session i had some lower back pain.wish i could have gotten a massage after.

With good ergonomics Thai Massage is quite easy on your body. With bad ergonomics it will cause lots of problems for your body! Smile

Module 19

It was really good seeing how all the techniques are done with their transitions. It takes me a while to move from one side of the body to the next and to do all the techniques in succession but with practice i should get it.

Module 20

It was a bit difficult for me to use my elbows on my client's feet because i was unable to sense the amount of pressure i was exerting but after asking her many times about how much pressure she was comfortable with , i was able to use the first technique that was taught. The other techniques were easy for me to learn and carry out and at the end of the session my client was very relaxed and satisfied.

I know, if you are not used to working with elbows, that's a whole new learning curve. But I can assure you that with practice you will develop feeling in your elbows for finding the exact right amount of pressure.
