After completing the shoulder course I was going to dive into the hip course since hips and shoulders are what trouble most people I see, but I got an email with a sale price for the back course and with the CAD/USD exchange rate I had to jump on it. Wow! The curriculum is extensive! This course looks like it’s going to be an intense learning experience.
MODULE 1
Well, I’m not really sure what to comment about on these first few theoretical modules. I’ve taken some advanced certification courses on orthopaedic and clinical massage therapy well as osteopathy so I have a fairly in depth understanding of spinal anatomy and kinesiology.

No need to comment then. With your resume, I figured you have a good understanding of these theoretical topics already. But many don't, so I made sure to address it in the course. Just comment on the practical modules which is most of them.
OK. I’m looking forward to your lessons!
MODULE 4
Alright…time to buckle in and learn the back work ☺️ I’m super excited to learn to work back on clothed people. These first few techniques are just great and are even a nice way to start a traditional Western style massage while the sheet is still over the client. They could also be a great way to loosen up the back for my personal training clients pre and/or post workout. These are really nice since they adapt to the table super easily or can be done on the mat. I love versatile techniques since I could be in my clinic with a table one minute or at a gym with just the floor the next.
MODULE 5
Nice basic techniques here. I treat the lamina groove often but I always use a pressure bar or a Graston instrument instead of my thumbs…no good comes from that. I was born with polydactyly on my left thumb so it doesn’t work very well at the best of times! I just adapted the techniques to use the pressure bar and work on one side at a time. I will palpate the area with my fingers/thumb first and then use the tool. I have to admit that I don’t treat the sacrum much at all…western hysteria about certain body parts and all which is a shame because the sacral multifidi can be a source of back pain. I’ll have to get over “brainwashing” I received in school 😂🤦♂️
You wouldn't believe how many of my clients liked sacrum work, and how much positive feedback our students received from their clients when doing sacrum work. I never quite understood what the 'western hysteria' is all about when it comes to the sacrum. It doesn't look sexy, it doesn't feel sexy, it is not near any sensual areas... What is supposed to be the problem with the sacrum??
I am sure you don't know the answer to that one as well.

My guess would be that the whole region from the top of the thighs to the waist is an “intimate” area. I don’t know. When I was a photographer I made artistic nudes, often inspired by old paintings and the ancient sculptures, so many people immediately thought I made porn and had no idea about nude art. I guess they’ve never been to the Vatican 🤷♂️😂 North Americans are generally on the prudish side of the scale.
MODULE 6
😂 Rocking and trying to switch sides at the same time!? Well…that didn’t go so well. Some practice is going to be required there! I’ll have to leave that advanced version for a little while later. The lack of big toe extension really gets in my way sometimes since I just can’t be on the left toes in any decent capacity. My brain thinks I can but the foot just doesn’t want to cooperate 🤦♂️ The sacrum treatments are great…so much to remember there.
