Module 30- Side Position 2
I just so happen to have a very pregnant sister-in-law who was happy to receive this massage practice session. She really enjoyed the elephant walking up and down the back I was of course very gentle on the lower back. I did the spinal twist with rocking instead of the sustained stretch so as not to over stretch. It really helped the back pain she was having. The other stretches with knee I was extra gentle also but she really enjoyed them. She was due a couple days ago so is hoping this will get baby to move along. Thank you for another great lesson.
Module 31- Side Position 3
This Module took many practice sessions to find the flow of the more advanced stretches and movements. I found finding a comfortable way to move my body was just as difficult and needed just as much practice to really find a way that works for me. My partner had a lot of discomfort in his shoulder due to having to sleep on his side in order to hear the alarm with his good ear. After his session he said there was no pain or discomfort he was able to sleep through the night without waking in pain.
Module 32- Side Position 4
I love how when learning things it seems the universe brings you a partner in need. I received a call from a aircraft pilot who has been having shoulder pain. After using some of the recent techniques especially the scapula work he was amazed at the difference. He had been seeing a chiropractor and it was not helping. I really enjoyed being able to help and found the practice helpful.
Often we as Thai Massage therapists can get results even if Chiropractic is not helping. Chiropractic is designed around a limited set of scenarios, whereas Thai Massage is a therapy system which works for the entire body and for countless scenarios. The two systems can sometimes be a good combination, but if I had to choose one of them for a long term treatment strategy, I would definitely pick Thai Massage.
Module 33- Sitting Position
I can see why this position is not used as much as others. I didn't mind doing it, but my partner said it was work to stay seated and it took away from the relaxing. He did, however, enjoy the back and shoulder stretch with rocking, said his lower back felt much better after receiving. Also the gentle spinal twist was liked and I liked that I didn't have to use force to do the spinal twist.
Module 34- Sitting Position 2
My partner really enjoyed the back traction move said it helped open up the back. The knee in the back was not as comfortable although I think that is due to how bony my partner is. The forearm technique also got high praise. I usually use a different forearm technique when a client is laying face down on the table but I could tell the difference in power and comfort doing it while client is sitting.
Module 35- Client Communication
This was very helpful to see different types of things that may come up with a client. I also have been through sessions that when over, the client said all I could think about was I needed to use the restroom. Why oh why didn't you say anything? I find talking for a bit before the massage really helps the client feel more comfortable giving feedback. The scale is also going to be an important tool in new clients sessions. Thank you for the wealth of information and time of the Thai Massage Course. I am very excited to be embarking on this new journey in life.
I had the same experiences, with clients not saying that they had to use the bathroom, not telling me they were cold, not saying if something was too intense for them. And then after the session they mention it. Argh! That's why I came up with this communication system to make sure that I preempt such scenarios.
