Module 11: I am so happy. I have such a natural love and flow,I feel confident with the thai massage! I even used some stretches to day on two clients I had for massage. They said it felt better than any massage they have ever had. I am so excited! I even made my own sequence. I see this is like making your own recipe for each person, Much like swedish and deep tissue massage.

Hi Larice, I looked at my records, and it seems that you unsubscribed from the course emails on 8/13/2014 by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of an email. That stopped the delivery of the course. The last module you received on 8/13/2014 was #11. I can only assume that you did this accidentally since nobody would unsubscribe from a course which they paid for! Smile

So I have re-subscribed you again which will re-start the course delivery. Just be careful what you click on! Smile

I do not understand question 12-1 I am not asking for the answers but maybe some guidance , The questions in module 12 are confusing me a bit, I would be very thankful to have a bit of help.

Question #1 for video 12 is how many calf stretches are shown on this video. If you just watch the first 10 minutes of the video, you will see that I show several stretches which are all doing a similar thing, namely stretching the calf muscle. Then you just count all the techniques that I show where I tell you that it is a stretch for the calf muscle, and that's your answer.

For question #2, just listen to the video starting at minute 2:25, and you will find the correct answer.

Thank you for fixing my subscribe issue, I couldn't imagine how I did that, but I did. So that said, I thank you for fixing it so promptly so that I can get back on track.

I have watched the video #12 two times, Perhaps I am so worried that I will miscount that I refuse to believe that I am getting the right answer, something i have to personally work out. I have dyslexia and tent to over think the answer if it involves a number, I am good at this challege I was born with, just slows me down a bit at times. I will catch up real soon!

You know, you only have to get 80% of the questions right - you don't have to be perfect. And you can repeat the test two more times if you don't pass the first time around. So don't stress over it. So far there has not been one single student who failed the test 3 times. I am sure you will be just fine. Smile

Module 12: I really like that you continually address the size differences between some people and how to adjust. I am so lucky to have you as a teacher, You are very reassuring and calm, This makes learning easier for me. I am an extremely calm patient person. I like to take my time to do one thing right rather than rush to do ten things wrong. I applied the leg work on several clients and they booked me for more sessions. I do not do thai massage yet, but I interject some stretches so that i can practice while working. Laugh

Thanks Larice! Smile

Many of my students integrate some of the Thai Massage work into their existing modality, either because that's what they prefer, or because that's a good way to practice on actual clients without doing a full blown Thai Massage session.

Module 13: What an exciting night I had of practice. I was practicing on my regular male model. When finally for what reasons I am not sure, His tiny figured girlfriend(my friend for 35 years) Joined us and helped me practice and tried some of the moves. Prior to this she would just watch t.v and ignore our presences. I was careful to be encouraging and compliment all her opinions and give her only positive feedback when she tried the moves. I didn't want to lose my new captive audience! I hope when I return to them on Thurs night that she will have more to bring to the table and make learning for all of use fun and full of variety.

P.S I really liked the 1 to 10 system. I use it from time to time, Not enough. I like the way you explain its purpose. I feel like using it with the idea of people noticing their levels of pain and how it goes up and down.

Module 14: Rocking the hip gave me a back ache, I think it may be because the person I was practicing on had a hip replacement and he is heavier than I am. I tried to use my body, It felt that I was doing it right, When I was done, I felt the burning pain in my lower back. The reach was far for me.

Shifting with rocking is awesome.

Module 15: I am very comfortable with the abdominal and chest massage because with very small modifications and direction, I already know the ways to massage, due to the fact that I took three semesters in asian body works when I was in college. I like working the CV channel myself. i find it very beneficial and most people are pleasantly surprised of how wonderful it makes them feel.People forget to touch there, It is is like a new wonderful awakening to connect them with such a wonderfully ignored part of their body. I try to encourage them to do it to themselves, I always say to them..You are your own best massage therapist because only you always know what feels good and what you need. We can connect with them and help them feel wellness.

I like reading people, Sometimes I can tell if someone is getting sick or getting over being sick just by the temperature of their skin, the scent of their breath and skin, and the feel of their ears and color of their eyes and skin with the sound and tone of the voice. If you pay attention It is amazing how much I know about someone in an hours time.

Module 16:   Rocking in and out of moves seems to be becoming a staple of transition in Thai massage. I can see that this is how people can become very relaxed during this massage. One person that I work on seems to start breathing deeply and soon  after falls into a light sleep, still aware of me. It is funny in a way. he will talk to me and then forget what he said.Very interesting.

Module 17: I am so pleased to see that the arm and hand is actually very familiar to me, I had mentioned that I took Asian body works in college, We go over meridians and channels. I felt like I knew exactly what you wanted from me and I only had to watch your twist on it and add it to what I already know. I wish everything felt so easy like this. I am grateful to have some knowledge already. It really makes more interesting to learn.

Module 18:  I want to know if it is possible that a large person may be to big for me and cause an injury, I worry about this when it comes to pulling a persons body ex: The hip pull. I did have a back ache after, I wasn't sure if I am pulling incorrectly or am I simply to small to do this move?

It is definitely possible that certain techniques are too hard to do on someone who is much bigger than you are. In such cases you can do 3 things:

  • You skip this technique on this client
  • If possible, modify it in such a way that it does not strain you
  • Replace it with a technique which accomplished more or less the same thing, but which is easier to do or gives you better leverage.

However you first need to be sure that your ergonomics are correct and that you are using your body weight to your full advantage. NO Thai Massage technique should ever result in a back ache or an injury.

If you are straining with a technique, you either are not doing it correctly, or you should not be using the technique on a client who is very stiff or much heavier than you. Bottom line is that you should NEVER be straining with any technique, and definitely not to the point where your own body hurts.

Module 19: I like how you place a review as we  move along in the learning process. I use the two that we have now as my guideline when I am practicing.I need to discipline myself in my speed. I tend to be trained in the American spa way, I have 50 minutes to get it all done. I have been starting to think of making Thai massage my own personal business. I want to be in charge of when and how I do this. I want to help people heal, not just massage in speedy way and say goodbye, hoping that they got some kind of relief. I hope fore this.

I think that this is an excellent strategy. In this way you can develop your Thai Massage therapy skills much more effectively than squeezing them into a rigid setup.

Module:20  I am honestly feeling truly blessed that I found your lessons, They are so informative and you are so very attentive to details.

That said, How exciting to be working on bodies in prone position. I feel like we reached to half way mark. I like the Achilles tendon stretch, I also give Reflexology treatments and love to add any technique that includes the feet. I wonder how some of these moves may fair on a table? I eventually will give Thai massage on a floor mat, for now when I am at work I am treating on a table and try to fit practice moves in this way.
