I know all about internet cables hehe. I spent some time in Vietnam recently, and "somebody" cut the main internet cable which connects Vietnam to the rest of the world. That cable runs at the ocean floor, and it took them over a week to find the issue and fix it. Nobody knows exactly what happened, but most of the country had severe internet problems during that time. It can happen anywhere, any time.

In Vietnam the rumor was that it might have been a shark bite, but that may have been wild speculation.

Anyway, back to Thai Massage. Smile I am glad to hear that it is coming together for you and that it starts to flow better.

Module 13

Well I thought I did pretty well with this one.  My partner didn't have any hip pain but I practiced the scoop and circle motion anyway just to get a feel for it.  She reported that it felt good.  I used the 1-10 method and she gave me a 2.  The last part of hip pie went really well.  I did notice that I let her foot slip a little but I believe that I have fixed my positioning to keep that from happening.

Quick question, This week I have had several clients who are pregnant in my regular practice and they have asked if they are able to receive Thai Massage treatments?(when i'm finished or course)  Forgive me if i just asked a stupid question...

That's not a stupid question at all. Actually I will point you to a couple of articles which cover this subject:

Are pregnancy and Thai Massage compatible?

Contraindications For Thai Massage

The bottom line is that yes, pregnant women can receive Thai Massage. You will find a detailed explanation in the two articles above.

Module 14

As I was working on transferring from one side to the other smoothly, well not so smoothly quite yet, I lost balance ans fell over a little bit.  Luckily I was practicing on my mom and she didn't mind to much lol So rather then have another accident and fall over again I used a pillow as a person and practiced switching from side to side and I have managed to do it smoothly FINALLY!  My partner also reported that her lower back feels much better after the treatment which makes me feel like I performed it correctly.

That information was very helpful and I think my clients will be very grateful to be able to receive some Thai Massage!!

Practicing the transitions on a pillow is a good idea. Better than falling on top of real clients! Laugh

MODULE 15

Fist I would like to say that I am very frustrated, if it isn't one thing its another.  Its been storming heavily the last few days which is affecting my satellite and internet (I love living in remote location but summer storms and winter snows are killer!!)  There is only so much I can do from my phone, watching the videos and practicing is no problem, posting and testing however  is a pain on such a tiny screen so I opted to wait for a very small window of opportunity, when I am actually home to do so!

So about Mod 15.  Some of the techniques were already familiar to me about the abdomen.  When I was in school for massage therapy and we learned the flow of our teacher that was part of it.  Im glad she did because it made it so much easier.  Moving the ribs is very cool, my partner enjoyed that part. I was also taught to do some work on the sternum like what was demonstrated in this mod so all in all I feel like I learned a few new things but I also got a much needed refresher for abdominal massage! And also a great setup to transition into the shoulder work!Laugh

Module 16

My regular partner could not make it so I used a backup therapist.  I always like to get to work with her because she is great about giving the right feedback instead of the typical "that feel good", in stead its more like "that would feel better if you adjusted your foot just a tiny bit."  Yes that looks more effective and takes less time to figure out how to do something.  I did pretty well with this I think.  I did have a small amount of trouble when my foot went into the armpit but that was an easy fix.  I also had to do a small adjustment of myself to make sure I was under the shoulder far enough for it to be a more effective stretch.  My partner REALLY enjoyed having her arm stretched up by her ear.  The best part is that because she is also a therapist she was able to do a few of the techniques to me and I actually got to feel them for myself, which helps a lot!

Sounds like your backup therapist should be your main practice partner! Smile

Module 17

She was actually my first choice but she is booked 4-5wks out so having her take time out of her scheduled to help me is few and far between!  If she was my partner I would only be on module 3 lol

The arm and hand was a lot of fun.  I always have somebody wanting to have their hands massaged whenever I am around so this is very handy to give them a small taste of Thai and reel them in! My partner said that her feet and her hands are her favorite part so far.  Best part for her was the 5 lines and the squeezing & rolling.  She could feel the stress just melting away.

There is something about the extremities like feet, hands, and head that just feels wonderful. I often get massage only on my feet, or my head, or my hands. I love it.

I also have a course about specifically Arm And Hand massage which has even a lot more techniques for hand massage if you ever want to go deeper.

Module 18

I am very interested in furthering knowledge of Thai massage that's for sure!

So my un-coordination cam into play a little bit again during the transition but I think as far as I am into the course I was able to figure it out pretty easily after a bit of practice.  That is the things I dread the most about this course is transitions.  I'm so used to Swedish massage but that's why I wanted to take it.  My partner enjoyed having their back stretched and did experience the popping along the spine.  They frequent the chiropractor so it was a nice feeling to them.

The farther you get into the course, the more you will be able to just figure many things out by yourself. This relates especially to body mechanics and transitions. Once you understand the principles of using least effort, moving in the easiest way possible, and using your body in the most efficient way, you will gradually come up with what works best for you. And this might be slightly different from what works best for me. Smile

Module 19

Well I have noticed that I am getting much better and settling into this flow as well.  Its comforting to know that im not terrible at this like I was afraid of in the beginning.  I do still have a little trouble remembering some of the positions that I need to be in to make a smoother transition but im getting it!

BTW I almost forgot to post about this module!!

A little overwhelm in the beginning is fairly typical. That's why I set it up so that you only get one video every three days. And then later on in the course the flow starts to gradually develop. That's when it becomes less of an effort and more fun.

Module 20

I am so glad to get to roll my partner over because it means that the course is half over and boy am I glad!!  I have completely fallen in love with Thai massage but man is there a lot to learn lol

So this went really well.  My partner really enjoyed the arch work and the elephant walking.  We are baling hay this weekend for the horses and alpacas so there is a lot of strain on our bodies right now haha  We practiced last night but I was so tired I couldn't post about it.  I will have another entry later this evening!

It's true, the learning curve in Thai Massage is pretty steep, but once you have learned it, you can do amazing things with it and get really impressive results.

Module 21

This video I really enjoyed doing because I have a friend that has some major issues with her IT band and I was glad to learn some more techniques to be able to help her out more. I still have a little trouble keeping my hand relaxed though. I want to make a fist but I think holding my hands together is helping keep that softness there. My partner reported that the rocking was very relaxing and could fall asleep to that. And then came the knee...I was a little nervous about using my knees cause they are very boney but my partner said it felt good and there was no pain so I guess that means I did it correctly lol I think the hip stretch worked really well for them also. Overall they felt better after this just like every other time!

Many therapists are afraid initially that their knee could cause pain. And the truth is, it can! However if you do it sensitively how I demonstrate in the course, you can make it feel perfectly good while using very little effort.

However if an insensitive therapist uses knee techniques on you - client beware - trouble ahead! Frown

Module 22

This session went pretty well. I was still a little nervous about my knee placement but my partner didnt complain so I guess I didn't cause pain. They really enjoyed the last stretch and also the one where knees were bent and feet went to the glutes. Said it was very strong but much needed.  I'm feeling a more comfortable with using my knees at this point.  I just ask for a lot of input to make sure I'm not causeing pain.?

That's exactly the best way of learning it and getting a feel for how far you can go - lots of feedback. It takes a while to develop more sensitivity in the knee, but it will come with practice.
