I'm back! I had such great success with the complete thai massage course that i've decided to add thai foot massage to my portfolio. I'm looking forward to studying with you again Shama.

Module 1, Thumbing sen lines on the soles of the feet.

Since i have already taken the complete thai massage course this isn't a new concept for me, i did however enjoy being up on my toes while thumbing the lines, i was able to apply more pressure to the soles of the feet by leaning in and i found it much easier to use my body weight. I will be adding this to my massage routine.  Laugh

Welcome back Kyle! I am happy to hear about your success with the Complete Thai Massage course. The Thai Foot Massage course is a great addition since you can use it to improve your Thai Massage or you can use it as a stand alone modality. Smile

Module 2.

I worked with these techniques on my massage partner and used them on a student after a private yoga class both really enjoyed it. My private yoga student wants me to do foot massage after every class now lol. I like working with my knuckles, combined with body weight it gets deep into the tissue, i was a little worried that it would hurt using my knuckles but both people i practiced on said it felt great. As i said before i  took the complete thai massage course so working with my forearms isn't new to me, neither is proper ergonomics. i've found with thai massage in general that it only takes a few seconds to get your body into the right position relative to the body part you're working on (it just feels right) and it all FLOWS from there.

You have a good foundation already, and now you can take it all to an even higher level! Maybe some of your students will get addicted to the foot massage.Smile

Module 3

The techniques in module 3 are techniques i already use in my thai massage practice. you are right about the first technique it is a wonderful movement once you get it down (it took me a few tries to get the foot position right and get the movements to flow smoothly) and everyone loves it. I hadn't thought of going up between the toes on the top of the foot though, i always went up the foot and did a finger wiggle up the toe. When i did it on my partner he liked it and i even added a little gentle squeeze and push between the toes by rocking forward.

Module 4

I do a lot of work in the side position especially on bigger clients and am very excited about the new work on the feet in the side position. Everyone loves foot massage and i always felt bad about not being able to do more on the feet once i put them on their side. I want to thank you for the part about the knees i had learned that move in a course i had taken years ago and hated it because it was so uncomfortable for me, but the way you explained it made it easier, when i did it on my partner he enjoyed it and told me that the way i was doing it before hurt and felt wrong because i would always tense up.  The fist is my absolute favourite especially with the circling and rolling its kind of like the move in module 3 but with fists and adding a roll from the wrist i loved it and so did my partner. Laugh one of my favourite things about thai massage is that not only is it wonderfully relaxing for the recipient but i almost find myself going into a trance while doing the massage because of the rhythmic moves.

Module 5

Most of the techniques in this module are also in the full thai massage course, however i like that you've given some variations and contraindications, and i like the crossing the feet stretch as well. i practiced the last technique on my partner in a 30 minute foot massage and i will be adding it to my thai massage routine he liked it and said it made his foot tingle. After doing all the massaging and stretching on both feet i will add that before i start on my single foot work to help relax the ankle and create more movement in the joint.

In the first part of this course, not everything will be totally new for you. However the second part of the course, starting with module 7, is a whole new world of foot massage.

And by the way, I often had the same experience of going into a trance myself when doing rhythmic Thai Massage moves.

Module 6

I used to massage my yoga students neck and head at the end of a class while they're in savasana but now i've switched and massage their feet and they love it. if i only have a few students i can do a longer massage and if i have a large class i can do a shorter massage and still get the same results. all of the techniques in the first 6 modules have added more depth to my thai massage and gave me a new way to relax my students after class. thanks Shama.

I think that must be the icing on the cake for your yoga students! Who would not love a little foot massage in savasana...

Module 7

I found the knuckle work in this module a little cumbersome i was worried that i would hurt my partner since i have bony knuckles, but he was okay with most of the techniques once i relaxed and moved more gracefully, and since he has bony feet i had to be very aware of where bones were since i didn't want to knuckle on his bones (ouch)  I also have some problems with my left hand. I crushed my index finger a few years ago and had to have it put back together so it doesn't have much flexibility and is quite painful if i work with it for to long, but hooking it around my right thumb really helped and i was able to work for quite a while that way without any pain. All in all i was successful practicing these techniques and with more practice i'll be able to refine them a bit to work with my hands.

You hit the nail on the head - if you relax and move gracefully, you could use your knuckles on baby feet without causing any discomfort. Just because you use your knuckles doesn't mean you should press as hard as you can.

Module 8

I like having the option of working in a chair or on the floor with this system. I haven't tried working on my massage table with it yet, perhaps i could use it as a nice finish to a reiki session. I had a student come to me at the beginning of a yoga class and ask if i could please massage her feet at the end of class lol i think i may be spoiling my students. I used the power move by placing her foot on a bolster she enjoyed the move said it made her foot hot. I use my knuckles at the base of the toes its an easy move and pretty powerful with vey little effort on my part. So far no complaints, and plenty of praise.

Module 9

my partner loved the toe work in this module...I used the same technique but after going up and down a few times on the toe i pulled right up and off the toe which i'm told felt "cool". working between the toes was enjoyable for my partner but i felt i was a little awkward getting between the toes and not very flowey? if thats even a word... i will work with that, i like all my techniques to flow together from one to the next so the client doesn't feel any stoping or loss of contact. lastly moving the massage up the leg and working on the knees was awesome and easy since it is part of thai massage i do it all the time.

Module 10

percussion.... i love percussion... i use it in some form or another in every massage i give and love it when some one chops or fists or cups on me during a massage. I even continued up and down the leg with the fisting while working on my partner.

Seeing how the whole thing went together was helpful, i have over the last couple of weeks created my own flow using the techniques and am constantly changing and refining it as needed... just like my thai massage practice i have a basic flow that i use on almost everyone but have the ability to change it and adjust it as needed depending on the person i'm working on.

Great course now i have a host of new foot techniques to add to my thai massage practice and a new modality to add as well.

Laugh

Good to hear that this course worked out well for you! Good foot massage is something which is not easily found, but is highly appreciated by clients. I am sure you will put it all to good use!
