I just completed module 1 & 2 this morning and the Chi Machine is already a big hit in my house! LOL Who knew something so simple could feel so good:) Thank you Shama for sharing this. I foresee myself using this in now only my Thai Massages, but also in my yoga classes. This would be a great technique to do on my students at the beginning of class, but also during Savasana. Such a great tool!

Can't wait until my next video arrives:)

Shama,

Agh I combined my modules! I'm sorry about that. I just went through the checklist and watched the tutorial so I now know exactly what to do.

Thanks for sharing this user friendly resource.

Module 3

Yesterday my mom (also a student of your program) and I spent almost the whole day practicing this sequence. We watched each move then got to take turns practicing on each other. Then we did the whole sequence on and off again throughout the whole day.

Wow talk about an amazing day! I mean getting to hang out with your mom and giving/getting foot massages all day long, what could be more fun? 😉 We practiced outside, inside, with music, without, etc. We also got the chance to practice on both my children at the same time. We even took turns practicing on my husband. Needless to say, I feel very comfortable with the sequence. I have to say my favorite technique to receive is the Push-pull-rotate technique. I thoroughly enjoyed doing all the techniques although I began the practice feeling very uncomfortable with the technique of rotating my torso while thumbing the sole of the foot, but I made such progress throughout the day.

What I liked most about this experience, was that I was not only able to practice it, but also experience it. You don't always get the chance to do that, so I really appreciated the opportunity. My mom and I vowed to make space for more days like today to really strengthen our practice as well as get to experience the relaxation Thai Massage has to offer:)

This sounds really amazing! What a perfect combination with you and your mom. There are so many course students here in the forum who wistfully write that they wish they had someone who could do the Thai Massage on them so that they can experience how it feels. You have that already built in! Smile

Module 4

I really appreciated your focus on learning through conceptual thinking in this module. Sometimes my left brain really needs to name and categorize things so the way you explained these techniques makes perfect sense.

I have been practicing daily and I feel myself really moving from just the mechanics of the practice to more feeling my way through the practice. I feel more connected to the person and the techniques. I walk away from the practice feeling almost like I was the one getting the massage. It's such a beautiful balance for both the receiver and giver.

You are getting into the spirit of this very quickly which is unusual at this early stage of the course. That's an excellent sign! Must run in your family! Smile

Module 5

So I spoke too soon! LOL Module 5 is kicking my butt;) For some reason, I just don't feel comfortable with this one...yet! I've watched it several times, so I know that I understand the techniques, it's just I'm having a hard time putting them into motion.

I've been working through the routine on my husband and I noticed it was very difficult to feel my way over his pants. His lose fitting pajamas pants are pretty thick and baggy so I thought maybe that was the issue. The next day he was wearing jeans...that didn't work either. Yesterday, he was wearing shorts and that felt much better! But I know I can't dictate what my clients wear so can you speak to the leg warm-up in reference to the type of pants they are wearing?

I just feel like the cloth gets in the way and without making contact with the skin I can't really feel that connection. Plus I feel like the techniques get sloppy and lost in the sea of fabric.

You can't dictate in what clothes clients show up, but I always keep a pair of loose cotton pants and a T-shirt handy in case a client is wearing something which is not conducive for Thai Massage. And I ask them to change. Here in Thailand many massage shops give you a set of massage clothes to wear.

Jeans are definitely not workable for a Thai Massage session since they restrict movement during stretches. Slippery nylon pants are also not good. Very bulky clothes don't work well either. Loose fitting, but not bulky cotton pants and a simple cotton Th-shirt work best.

If possible, I ask clients before they show up for a session to wear suitable clothes.

Working through clothes is something you will get used to. This is how Asian modalities like Thai Massage and Shiatsu are done. It works very well if the clothes are suitable.

Thank you Shama,

That is wonderful advice and I'll be sure to keep that in mind. I practiced a lot over the weekend on my mom and sisters and found it much easier. They were wearing more suitable clothes:)

Module 6

I absolutely love using my forearms! This module was really awesome. The biggest challenge has been making sure to distribute even pressure through my forearm and then at the same time not to lean in too far. I did get lots of practice the weekend and besides the occasional pressure readjustment I got thumbs up.

I am still working on my transitions, as well. Moving myself from one position to the next has not been has fluid as I would like. This program is teaching me to slow down and be mindful. I'm often that person that is so excited about the next thing that I rush from one thing to the next and miss all the in between so yes this is helping me to appreciate that in between 🙂

Slow and mindful Thai Massage beats the quick version every time. It feels so much better and it is much more effective as well.

Later on in the bonus section of this course there is an entire training module on how to work with your forearms on almost every area of the body! Something to look forward to. Smile

Module 7

I really loved this module. The techniques are fairly simple and I feel really confident that I am doing them correctly. The elephant walk has always been a favorite around my home so when I saw it in this video I was very pleased. It is such a simple yet amazing technique. I had never tried it on the legs so it was very delightful to share that with my family.

This week I have been focusing on just going with my own flow. I focused less on getting every single technique in and more are just doing the ones that felt right. I really slowed down and took my time. Oh what a difference that made not only for me but for my partner.

Until next time,

Kristin

Module 8

Again in this model you brought in the idea of conceptual thinking versus following a sequence. I very much appreciate that approach. Gosh it makes this so simple. Thank you.

I found that the calf work in this module, was very effective for my partner. He appreciated the attention that was given to that area.

The hip stretch in this video was also really appreciated. My partner has very tight hips so the circling, rocking, and press where all well loved.

My mom came to town this week. She has been having some lower body pain so I did my sequence on her and she got up feeling relieve. It was very empowering for me to know I actually helped someone feel better! Such a wonderful, blissful feeling:)

My mom and I took the opportunity to practice on family this weekend. We were all gathering for a get together. I shared the picture of us practicing on the Facebook page for this program;) My grandmother have never experienced or even heard of Thai Massage before and she was absolutely in love after her session. My sister said I was definitely improving on my practice. My little 4 year old is very interested in helping others and has been exploring massage with me as I move through the program. We were all amazed of how well she was following along with our moves. Future student for sure!

I love the picture you posted on facebook!

It's true, being able to do good massage work is a reward in itself. You can't help but feeling good when you make others feel better.

Module 9

I really love the movement of these techniques. They feel like they have such an impact on the client. When I started this program my husband was pretty tight so the range I had to work with was very small, but he's already softening up so much. He loves feeling his body loosening and flexing. He looks forward to it everyday.

This weekend I got to practice my entire foot and leg routine on my sister in law. It was really awesome to share this with someone who had no idea what Thai Massage was. She was very delighted to have the experience. She definitely was most blissful during the techniques from this module.  Not to mention, I did her session on my mother-in-law's dock, on a lake in the mid-morning light of the sun. Talk about peaceful!

Module 10

So again this weekend offered me the chance to try some of these, more intense stretches. Both my sister and my sister-in-law are more flexible than my husband. My husband really couldn't handle these, just yet. But yes the 2 ladies really enjoyed these.

These techniques offer a nice finish to the whole routine. There is definitely a fine line between sweet discomfort and pain so I appreciated your notes from the last module about 1-10 and really watching their facial cues. I made sure during both sessions yesterday to cue into their faces and check in with them. So yeah it's really about finding that sweet spot and working there:)

You will become the favorite family therapist! Smile It sounds like Thai Massage is right up your alley. Clearly you must be doing it right if you get such good results and feedback, which is quite impressive considering that you are only in the early stages of the course!
