Module #1

I really agree that massage is about connecting with our clients through energy with our breath and touch. I like at the end where you said don’t breath against what you are doing. That put the breathing into perspective for me.

I know that my body is going to have to get used to doing massage on a mat on the floor but am excited about this because I think it will put less strain on my body then using a massage table and make the stretches more comfortable for both me and my clients. I feel encouraged that over time my body will get used to the floor. Suggestions on buying a floor mat would be helpful. (size, brand, etc.)

Thank you and I am looking forward to module 2

Hi Heidi, welcome to our community. It looks like you started the certification program, however I have not seen a certification registration from you. If you are posting in order to get a certificate, please send in the registration. We need that for our records. You can find the link to this form in your course manual in the certification section.

Regarding the Thai Massage mat, there is an entire video about this in our supplemental series which goes along with this course. You can also search for “mat” or “massage mat” in our facebook group, and you will find several threads about this, and also some links where you can purchase one.

And finally, assuming that you do want a certificate, please take a moment and familiarize yourself with our certification checklist to make sure that it is all organized correctly:

Module #2

I was thrilled when practicing the chi machine on my hubby that I was able to move his whole body. It seemed almost effortless when his feet were relaxed in my palms on my thighs. I did try to elevate his feet about half inch off my thighs which I noticed required more effort but was able to move his body more and he said it felt better when I elevated the feet a little bit. After I was done he asked if I wanted to see how it felt and of course I didn’t pass this up. after about a minute I felt heat in my left forearm. I had him touch both right and left forearms and he said wow your right your left is definitely warmer than your right. Not sure what that means but it was a good experience and it gets the energy juices flowing.

I gave it a try on my daughter who is 10 and completely ticklish. She started to giggle but she let me keep going and within a minute her eyes where shut no giggling and she looked very relaxed. I also practiced on another massage client who works in my studio and she said it was definitely relaxing and felt like it grounded her with me.

You should have my registration form now. I must have missed that step.

Yes, thanks, I got your registration form.

You must be a natural that you got the hang of the Chi Machine so easily. I bet it feels good that you were immediately able to get such good results from practicing on your family.

Module #3

After practicing the feet on my husband, who has had lots of table massage, he said this is massage with a bonus. The next day he commented that he still felt like he had a good stretch in his feet. He runs heavy equipment so he uses his feet a lot with the pedals so this felt really nice to him

My sister, who has been to Thailand came for a visit and I was able to practice on her she said yes this feels like Thai massage.

I also practiced on Aubrie and she was the youngest being in her 20’s. It was interesting to see the difference in range of motion between all three. on Aubrie I was able to press her feet all the way to the floor where my husband and sister had less flexibility.

It did take me several tries to get the counter clockwise rotation movement along with squeezing and bending the foot but I think I got it and know it will come more natural the more I practice.

It’s good that you get to practice on different persons. This will make it much easier to learn compared to practicing only on one person.

Module #4

I am a massage therapist so touch and connecting with my clients or the people I am practicing on comes natural for me but when your learning a new way of doing massage it’s hard not to be mechanical. It does feel a bit awkward but I know with time it will become more natural. When I was practicing the foot routine I ended up bending my husbands feet out a  few times and when I let go he bent them in himself to stretch it the other way. It was his body wanting to be in balance. When we bend the feet in it feels great but doesn’t feel complete until we bend out just like bending the feet up we must bend them down it creates a needed balance in the body and opens up the energy to flow the way it is supposed to. Just the same as what we do to the right side we must do to the left.

It’s true, practicing new techniques tends to be on the mechanical side. But as long as you understand the holistic concepts (as you apparently do), the emphasis on the mechanical will gradually subside and the flow and the balance will ultimately emerge. That’s always a good thing to look forward to! Many course students feel this flow happening towards the final section of this course.

Module 5

After watching the video I thought this is going to be a challenge for my hubby. He is so ticklish in his upper thighs. The minute I put my hands in butterfly and leaned over his thigh and pressed down he was so jumpy and I was laughing hysterically. He did let me keep practicing but it wasn’t very productive. Not sure what to do when somebody is really ticklish in a certain area and in this case everything I did to the upper thigh he struggled with relaxing because it was so ticklish sensitive for him. Any hints?

You make it look so natural and easy in your hand movements warming up the legs. This is going to take some more practice and time. It did feel rather awkward.

In my experience such super-ticklish persons are quite rare. Typically children tend to be the ticklish ones. In adults this is so rare that I would not worry about it. You will always find exceptions to all rules, and you just have to live with those and work around it. There is no ‘trick’ to dealing with this, except for avoiding the area if you happen to come across it.

Module 6

This version of warming up the legs was far less ticklish because it used broder pressure. Practiced this on Aubrie and my hubby and both liked this way better. I had to adjust my body because I wasn’t able to get over the legs to apply pressure like you did in the video not sure if its because I am doing it wrong or my torso is shorter but the adjustment seemed to work and I was able to use my body weight and felt less awkward.

You may have to adjust your body mechanics sometimes to account for differences in body size and weight. But in most cases the version shown in the videos should work. Often it helps to re-watch a particular video. Also there will be a summary video coming up where you get to see how you can put it all together.

Anyway, it is normal that some techniques can feel a little awkward in the beginning. It’s kind of like learning to drive a stick-shift. In the beginning you kill the engine and make it jump like a bronco, and after a while it all becomes second nature. Smile

Oh yes the stretching!! Thank you for the helpful video that showed adjustment if you have small hands. I had to use the adjustment on everybody I practiced on and it worked wonderfully. I did pay attention to what direction the feet fall and tried to feel if the hip was higher on one side or the other. Now when I am working on my clients I am looking more closely at the direction of their feet. My practice partners said the hip stretches felt wonderful. It seems a lot of people are tight in their hips and usually one side more than the other.

Sometimes those little adjustments can make a big difference between not being able to do something and doing it easily. There are many such adjustments in this course!

Module 8

I am loving the hip stretches. They are really helping my husband, especially his left hip. I can tell it has less range of motion. This is exactly what I have been wanting to learn,  how to stretch the body without hurting somebody, getting more comfortable with moving the body to get better range of motion.

I am happy to hear that this course fits you like hand-in-glove! It’s especially rewarding if we can help a loved one who really needs it.

module 9

I feel like at this point I have learned enough stretches to do a little practice on my clients so I have gotten brave and asked a couple of them if they want some stretches to see what I am learning in my online Thai massage class and of course they said absolutely. So far I have only been practicing on a couple practice partners. I have one client in particular that has been having trouble with one of her hips and she loved the stretches. She said no massage therapist has stretched her hips like that before. She wanted some stretches she could do on her own at home.

That must feel encouraging! I am sure your confidence will grow, and the more clients like it, the more you will feel like using it! Smile
