Module 13

It was interesting to go back to "hip pie" and look at it in a more therapeutic way. And practicing on my model also was very enlightening. When they felt pain it was nice to see practically how it helps to lessen the pain. On other stretches that weren't painful at least I could pretend.

Module 14

Hello. It was fun doing hip rocking. I was able to clearly see how relaxing and enjoyable it is. My co-worker really liked it. Actually she liked all the techniques that I practiced on her from this module. However, the half back arch stretch with quad and hip flexor stretch she didn't like very much because she felt quite strong stretch in her quad muscle. I guessed it was because of tight quad muscles. And of course, changing sides isn't as easy as you do Shama but I will keep practicing.

You will always find that not every technique works for every client. That's a good thing because Thai Massage is not a one-size-fits-all system. It needs to be customized and modified to fit the individual clients. That's the art of it, and this becomes easier and easier with more and more practice and experience.

Module 15
Hi Shama. First thing that popped into my head when I started watching the video was: It is better not eat before coming for Thai massage. Because for me it looks like if you do stronger hip stretches it can add unpleasant feelings or discomfort and if overdue with abdominal massage that can lead to nausea.
While practicing on my model I notice tension especially with first touch no matter how gently I try to ease in but after that slowly they relax. There were moments where you could hear some giggles or laughter. They even admitted that they start to doze off. I have to admit it myself that even I start to get droopy, especially doing wavy motions on abdomen. I think it was a nice change of paces.

"It is better not to eat before coming for Thai Massage."  -  Definitely true. It is advised to not have a full meal for at least an hour before a session, and two hours before an abdominal massage.

Module 16

Practicing with my co-worker was interesting. For some reason while doing a shoulder rowboat for me it looked like I was hurting her. Because the armpits and inner part of the upper arm are sensitive areas and I didn't want to hurt her. But she assured me that I am not.

Also, I noticed that doing one-side, two hand shoulder lift (sliding) I felt more comfortable and in control then doing one-side, one hand shoulder lift (sliding). Because with one hand it often feels that I don't have a good hold and my hand is sliping. So I am guessing I am staying with a one-side, two hand shoulder lift for now.

Module17

Continued on practicing, my model loved hand squeeze, rotation and gentle pulls. I think it helped that her main work instrument is her arms so my co-worker was in heaven or so she said. And I liked to do it too because it's relaxing and soothing for me as well.

Also when I saw wrist shaking I remember that there are patients/clients that no matter what shaking you do there are stiff. So I am guessing the best thing to do is to skip this technique.

Module 18

The hardest part of this module for me is smoothly changing sides. Never thought that I am so out of shape and balance but this course proves me wrong.

Practicing alternate traction lift for arms and shoulders it was hard to keep my back straight and not bend my back. So I tried to "play" with my gravity center and wider stance to see what my lower back likes most and imitate possible variations of clients.

Module 19

Hi. While the video was on I tried to follow you Shama to better understand and/or feel how to connect techniques. Also, it was great for repeating what I learned in this section. And after finishing watching this module I found another model and tested my memory and see what I remember best.

"Also when I saw wrist shaking I remember that there are patients/clients that no matter what shaking you do there are stiff. So I am guessing the best thing to do is to skip this technique."  -  You will find clients who cannot relax at all, no matter what you do. On them this technique might not work. But such clients will be a small minority. On most clients, this technique will work fine.

The same observation applies to a range of techniques in Thai Massage. They are not designed to work on everyone, but they are there for you to choose what does work on a particular client.

Module 20
Hi. I liked this module for extra ways to work on patients when arms get tired. At work I incorporated more elbow work and elephant walking so it was nice to continue to add more technique. My model also liked the elbows on his feets. And at the end of the video when the topic went to props I remember that when I lie on my abdomen I like to put something under it (towel) so my back won't feel pain or discomfort. Also I will have in mind how to add extra comfort for women with bigger breasts.

Module 21
First thing that comes to mind when I start watching the module: Clients with lower back problems won't like if someone lifts their leg when they are lying down on their abdominan. Because in my work I have a lot of patients with lower back problems so their safety came first in my head. However, my co-workers are healthier than my patients so they were more favorable toward that position.
When it was time to try stretching with a knee press to lower leg I was a little apprehensive to try because I didn't want to hurt my model. But after a few tries and errors I think I got it.

Module 22
Hello. I liked doing this module technique even the more challenging ones. Hip flexor/quad stretch wasn't easy to do at first but after some practicing I think I got an idea and mechanics.
When I was trying to do a prone reverse leg lift I was hesitant to sit on someone's hips because I always think if the model/patient has lower back problems and won't I cost more problems by sitting. So it took  me some time to adjust my weight so I would be sure that I wouldn't hurt anyone.
These two gave me most work but I liked it.

Module 23
Ooohhhh!!! This module was heaven for my models because this time it was all women. All the techniques that I did they loved, some even made them laugh. I was happy that they were enjoying it but I had some difficulties trying not to lose rhythm while thumb rocking in the groove. I think all I need is to get used to the motion.
Hip rocking on glutes and lower leg gave my head some work to do because on one side it's easier to do then the opposite side. But not impossible.
And as always I had a challenge with using my body weight on models especially when they are significantly lighter then I am while practicing knee rocking on glutes technique. Of course, the technique itself isn't easy so it gave me a good workout.

You seem to be tuning in to what works and how deep you can go and how to refine what you are doing. That sounds like good progress. Smile

Module 24

Hello. Oh I was so happy when I heard that there won't be any pressing with thumbs. I am not against that, I just love technique with as little to no stress on my joints because I am not fond of hurting myself. Before starting this module I was practicing module 23 a little more so this time getting rhythm was easier. And of course I can't forget my model who liked this module especially the circling and rocking movements.

Module 25

Hi Shama. First half of the video, up till the knee, was very familiar because I use it a lot at work on my patients. So there weren't any problems. However, the second part of the video was a little bit challenging. I think the hardest part was not to squash anyone while practicing. My model didn't say anything other than that knee technique felt unpleasant at times. I think I still need to work on my balance and control. But practice makes it perfect.

Module 26

First technique in the video looked so comfortable and I was excited to try. When I tried it on the model it was not only comfortable but also easy to do. And my model really liked it and I quote "It feels really nice, relaxing". I think the lack of bony parts (fingers, elbow) that made them say that.

When the galloping rhythm came it was interesting to say the least. It took some time to get it right but when I got the hang of it. It was fun for me to do and model to enjoy. However, when rolling over the erector muscles on the near side of the spine in gallop rhythm my hand got confused so am I. I think because it combine motion that I need more time to learn.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the back techniques. The knee techniques are a bit more challenging initially - that's normal.

Module 27

Hello. I loved this module. Because in my experience people have a lot of problems and tension in this area so learning more technique was very helpful. As so happened my model had very tense shoulder muscles and they were very happy that I gave that area more attention.

The start of the module went calmly and with no problems for me however when time came for the cobra the problems arose. While I was doing this technique on my model my hands were slipping (cobra #3) and I was scared that I hurt them badly. My model wasn't complaining but I still didn't want to risk hurting them. I still practiced this technique but I will need more time to become more comfortable with it.
