I wasn't expecting the techniques to be so natural and fluid. Most clients of mine who talk about Thai massages they have had tell me about how it hurt and they got "beat up". These techniques are great and I cannot wait to use these on my clients willing to try a non traditional massage. So many of them have major shoulder and back issues and this first module alone can start to lose their shoulders.

Module 2
Using rolling techniques is something I didn't even think about, even in my basic massage. I have done stretching but the rotation is while applying the pressure on muscles around the joint is something I know my clients will benefit from. Used this session on my son and he enjoyed it and said nothing hurt. The slow progression of stretching and moving the arm and shoulder over sessions is key to helping some of my clients with major mobility issues. and I'm excited to do this on the floor, clothed...eliminating time draping and applying lotion etc.

module 3
I love the traction and jostling in this module and using my body is going to save my hands and wrists. You can't do a lot of this on the table, so using my whole body to manipulate my clients' bodies is going to benefit everyone! Leaning into and out from the client can definitely help me to work on my large and/or very muscular clients.

module 4
I am a little concerned how some of my clients will tolerate lying prone on a mat but we shall see. This module is fairly basic and is quite close to what I do during prone position of my regular table massages so not much more to say here except that anyone learning this with no massage experience will benefit from these basic effective techniques.

Module 5
I love the side lying position because most people are comfortable like this and gravity is not working against me when manipulating the shoulder. I used this on one of my clients last week because he is heavy, very rigid (fascia speaking) and extremely inflexible. Much easier on me! I can basically twist turn bend move the shoulder and arm any way I want without having to necessarily lift the whole shoulder joint and arm. Basic but ergonomic and effective.

Module 6
A continuation of module 5, this moving and stretching of shoulder is more extreme and intense. Many of my clients will like this but I will have be careful with some of them due to flexibility and injury issues. I'm curious to see if my clients with major damage or syndromes can get some more range of motion from these techniques. I shall proceed with caution:)

Module 7
Using feet to roll and knead shoulders is something I'm looking forward to because this work is what usually causes the most strain on my hands wrists and neck. I spend a lot of time working on this area on my clients and it's labor intensive. sitting with my back against the wall will immensely help me get the heavy but soft surface pressure of my foot on their problem areas, and I know some of my clients will let me use feet knees elbows own to get them some relief!!!!!

Module 8
Im not sure I'm quite comfortable with these techniques yet using knees (my knees are bony). I think I will need more practice with my own body mechanics before I can safely massage their bodies with my knees etc. The larger body builder clients of mine will probably love this so I will have to find a balance over time!

Module 9
When I watched Shama Kern put this all together( not using all the techniques necessarily), it all comes together quite nicely. Moving from one position to another doesnt seem that daunting anymore, and all the movements are quite natural. That combined with the appropriate pressure and communication with my clients, I think they are going to love the new massage in my repertoire. I'm looking forward to the Back Massage course next. I really think these two courses will get many my clients feeling markedly better!
