Module 1

Module 1 consisted of an overview of the 3 energy lines in the foot, as well as proper thumb position and body position in order to use body leverage rather than thumb power.

I started the complete Thai massage course last year and before I had to take a break from classes I had begun some of the modules that focused on the feet.  The expansion of discussing the 3 energy lines was interesting.  Regularly at the end of my yoga classes I will put essential oils on my clients feet and walk my thumbs up and down the down the foot as instructed in the other course module.  Now, after watching the first module) I know that I have only been utilizing the first energy line when I do that.  I played a little bit with it today trying to cover the other two lines with one of my clients and it seems that body placement and the size of my hands is what is preventing me most from being able to hit the other two lines (especially the 3rd one). Would you recommend using a second hand to get to that 3rd energy line in the case of small hands?

Actually there are different methods to work on those energy lines, including a two-handed version which you will see demonstrated in another module of this course. However even with this method, if you rotate your hands a little around the foot, you should be able to reach the other two lines, or at least the second one. But you may prefer the two-handed version.

Thanks for sending in the certification registration.

And finally, please take a minute to familiarize yourself with our certification checklist to make sure that it is all correctly organized:

Module 2

This module covered the use of the rolling of thumbs, knuckles and forearms on the feet.  One thing that I definitely liked in the modules was the close up shots, as the verbal descriptions and the long view were a little confusing.  The thumbs method felt very natural for me to do.  The knuckles was a little odd.  I may have been holding my hand too tightly as I could feel everything shooting down to my wrists....of course that could also mean that I may just have weaknesses in my hands as I am not used to using them in that way.  The forearm technique is not manageable at all for me at the moment.  I don't feel like I have as much control in where my forearm goes, vs feeling like I can be consistent in my use of my thumbs.

Make sure that your wrists are not bent when you use your knuckles as that would strain them. You will get used to the forearm work. I know it can feel really unnatural in the beginning, but the use of other body parts like knuckles, forearms and elbows is one of the big advantages of Thai Foot Massage since it prevents you from wearing out your thumbs, and it gives you more power with less effort.

Module 3

This module focused on the circular side-to-side motions, using the thumbs along the energy lines of the top of the foot, and beginning to work on the ankle and heel.  I always do a little bit of a foot rub on my yoga students at the end of my classes so I get lots of opportunities to try out these various techniques.  I've been doing the side to side motion of traveling my thumbs up the energy lines on the bottom of the foot since I first encountered the technique in the complete Thai massage course.  It is by far the favorite from my students and I've had many say that they instantly feel relaxed when I do it.  I haven't managed the circular motion of my body yet, but I do have a side-to-side rhythm that feels seamless.

You don't have to necessarily be perfect with every technique. If you find some that work really well for you, that's good. You can always improve the ones that you are having a harder time with at a later time. I also have certain favorite techniques. Smile
