Started the course this weekend, watched the overview(module 1) and chi machine(module 2) videos. Amazing how a move so simple can be so effective! Naturally, just as I start this course the girlfriend take off for work.Frown  Looks like I'll have to find some new volunteers.

Hi Dave, welcome to our forum and the Complete Thai Massage course.

So you are in a relationship with a Thai woman. I am sure she will appreciate your developing Thai Massage skills.

I met my Thai wife in a massage shop here in Thailand where she was working as a therapist. We have been together ever since, and that was 13 years ago.

Please take a moment and familiarize yourself with our certification check list here (specifically items 3 to 6):

Module 3

So the foot massage, overall, went really well. Each step was well explained and easy to follow along. My friend had stated that the pressure stayed fairly constant throughout. I think it also helps that they had some tough soles, because I was able to tell the difference when I was using more muscle and not the proper body mechanics.  It was definitely tricky getting the hang of moving in a circle while pressing and twisting the feet.

The circling move is a little tricky, but once you get it, it's a really good one. Just do it one step at a time, and sooner or later it will feel like second nature. Smile

Module 4

Very nice breakdown of each step to the foot massage. The concept learning is a really helpful approach. Practiced the whole routine a few time through with the partner. The circling move is getting there, the rest went very well. Pressure stayed consistent. Only minor hiccup was finding that hollow point, simply because their ankle was a little big. But we got it and finished off a great foot massage.

Sounds good! Smile

There is more 'concept learning' coming your way when you get to the hip work.

Module 5

Not to much trouble with these exercises. There were plenty of moves, so will study them one at a time. Only thing is that my partner has some bigger thighs, so they kept saying I could use a little more pressure. The hand over hand technique warming the thighs is pretty clever. I had only learned the butterfly with palms next to each other

Plenty of ways to warm up the thighs - hands, forearms, knees, rocking moves - all coming up soon in the course! Smile

Module 6

Another good warm up routine. After I went through it with my partner they thought the warm up with the hands and fingers was a little better. I was probably holding back on the pressure while leaning in. A little more practice should do the trick.

Module 7

Very interesting observation on foot position in relation to the hip placement. Looking at my partner their feet were fairly straight, so both legs were tight to rotate out. They really enjoyed these stretches, of course had to take it slow since those muscles were quite tight.

I have often amazed my clients when I told them where they had problems without even touching them. You can tell a lot from looking at someone if you just know what to look for! Smile

Module 8

Some more really nice stretches. My partner was about the same size as me, so not to difficult to maneuver around. Could feel a little stiffness when stretching, went slow and eventually began to loosen up. My control felt good, focused on the breathing. The stretches looked so good I had my partner try them on me!

That's great if you have someone do the moves on you so that you know how it feels.

Module 9

Those are some pretty intense stretches! Didn't have to much trouble handling them on my end. My partner was a bit tight, so had to go slow on most of the moves. Wasn't sure about the hamstring stretch, but he wanted to give it a try. Wasn't able to go to deep, but got a feel for how to do these stretches with a gentile touch.

"With a gentle touch" - that's the watch word. If you do all those stretches in that way, you will do well. It's easy to increase power if needed, but the gentle touch is something that is absolutely necessary to develop.

There are so many horror stories around about people who received "very painful" Thai Massage sessions. That only happens when the therapist is not sensitive and does not have a gentle touch.

Module 10

Another nice round of leg stretches that went quite well. Like usual, having a larger partner, we went through the moves slowly to get the proper technique. A little getting used to where the feet go and proper body mechanics. Think I may have stepped on his feet a couple times... otherwise kept a slow steady pace with the stretches. And once their legs got warmed up we could take the stretches a little deeper each time.

Module 11

Nice to see how it all comes together. For the first time through I followed along with the video, paused where I needed to. Felt at times where I would rush a move, or not use my whole body. So I would refocus, and continue. My partner felt that my pressure is getting more consistent. Stretches are a little limited do to their age and flexibility.

Module 12

Finished trying out these new hip stretches. Went really well, since my partner is bigger we just took it slow. But he was willing to go through the entire routine. The sacrum stretch was really unique. And I was wondering on the Calf Stretch; when you have the one hand under the heel and the left one is on the thigh are you applying any pressure downward on the quad muscles?

Yes, there is some pressure on the quads, so it's kind of a two-in-one technique. However the main purpose is to stretch the calf muscle with the secondary purpose being the quad pressure.

Module 13

A lot of nice concepts, especially describing to the clients the difference between "good pain" and "bad pain". So for practice I went over the entire hip pie with my friend. A few days ago the stretches were fairly limited, but now we are starting to feel the legs and hips begin to loosen.  Went over the scooping and circling routine, that spot wasn't too much of an issue for him. Still enjoyed though.
