Complete Thai Session 1 notes

Working on a floor mat is great for me.  Being a yoga teacher I love the ergonomics and benefits of working on the floor.  I like how you show how to use my bodyweight properly.   I do not own a table and have no plans on ever working on a table. I love that you encourage others to try to work from the floor.  Also, I love that this course is not about the clinical aspects of the treatment and that its more about energy flow.  I love the aspects of connection to others to feel your way around the body.   Quality of touch. I love that 99% of thai Massage therapist in Thailand don’t know the names of the anatomy.  I feel included because of your choice to use simple language about the body.  I love the many techniques compression,  stretching, twisting, traction, rocking, percussion, kneeding and holding. I also really like the different tools, thumbs fingers knuckles hands forearms elbows knees and feet. I love that you talk about just practice what may not be comfortable the first day can indeed become comfortable.  Not working with the muscles in my practice and using stacking principles and body weight helps me feel better on my days end after a full day of working with my Thai Massage clients.

Shama, I want to be sure this is how I am supposed to post these. Thank you.

Peace,

Brad Offutt, 500 E-RYT Certified Baptiste Power Yoga Instructor

Complete Thai Massage MODULE Session 2 notes

I love the mindfulness of the right body posture the right attitude the right breathing and the right mindset.  I like that all of the different names of thai massage but there is really no difference.  I really like the concept of making it your own adding to the modality and giving it your own stamp of things you have found to be useful rather than simply sticking strictly to a tradition. I enjoyed practicing the ergonomics suggestions and getting my knee aligned with my clients and being in an upright status. Straight arms stacking and using my bodyweight to where it feels amazing for me the practitioner   I like the explanation of chi machine and how to set myself up. I put my legs a little apart with her heals midway up my thighs just a little to the inside.  Rocking my hips and focusing on her hips made the move pretty simple.

It sounds like this course is right up your alley! Smile We seem to have the same values and we have a similar focus on what is important.

Your posting is fine! The main thing is that I am looking for a storyline, thoughts, reflections, experience with the practice, partner feedback, how you use it, etc. I don’t want to see just a listing of content of the videos, because first, I know what’s in the videos already since I made them, and second, a content listing is really boring to read, and third, a content listing doesn’t show if someone is actually working with the material. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your first posts.

Plus I like some good interaction. We might as well make it fun while we are at it! Smile

By the way, I also have never owned a massage table, and I don’t see any reason for ever getting one.

Complete Thai Massage MODULE Session 3 notes

I love that by massaging the feet we can effect the entire body.   To me there is a lot of power in that.  For me I was practicing slightly different variation of compression of the  feet in three places more with my whole hands.  I love learning this variation and gave it to my clients today. They seemed to all enjoy it very much.  I love implementing the push pull rotate technique.  Before i was just pulling and holding the pull.  This is a great move and i love your alignment que.  i was sitting with the leg a  little out like you demonstrated not to do.  I put the new alignment into practice today. Also the shaking the foot routine is new to me    I love it and received good feedback from my client. Thank you.

I am happy to hear that you are already finding new material early on in the course. I am sure that there will be plenty of new material later in the course. Course students especially appreciate that many times I present alternatives, i.e. various ways of doing a particular technique to account for different body types and sizes. Thai Massage is often taught in a one-size-fits-all way. This course is quite different in this regard. Smile

Complete Thai Massage MODULE Session 4 notes

Shama I also want you to know that this course is right for me.  I like your teaching.  Thank you.

From my session from last time I learned alot.  I enjoyed especially my leg under the clients and using traction and compression and twisting.  Before I was only using traction here so i love this learning. I liked practicing with my entire body. I feel I already do this but even more mindful this has become in my practice.  Using my entire body as the tool.  I like the concept of the 8 movements of the foot.  Simply putting that into my tool belt of general understanding of the body.  Using just my bodyweight and really incorporating that with straight arms or bent arms when appropriate.  I love picking my favorite moves but the knowledge of having extra moves for clients that come often.

Thanks, Brad, I am happy to hear that you decided that this was a good investment for you. Especially when you get to the upper body section of the course, you will be amazed at how much new material there will be. Smile And not just new techniques, but different ways of working – especially the rocking moves.

Complete Thai Massage MODULE Session 5 notes

This has been my favorite module thus far.  I love the fact that we are continuing w the thumb roll up technique from the foot up to the legs.  All of this is new techniques for me.  I love the sensation of the thumb rolling of the calf and then continuing up the 2 different lines of the upper leg. And then i enjoyed using the palm rolling on the calf and 2 lines of the thigh.  My experience with the wrist push pull was awesome. My client loved this technique and is exited about other new techniques I am adding.  The thumb compression roll to the outer leg was also a nice addition with the use of my foot stabilizing her leg.  Thank you Shama

Glad you like it. You will see throughout this course that I prefer motion techniques, like rolling or rocking, over straight linear pressure techniques. Adding a little motion makes it feel better and is also easier on our hands. Smile

Complete Thai Massage MODULE Session 6 notes

My experience of this module was great.  I found it took me a little more work than some of the past modules.   I really like the forearm compression work combo with rocking and melting into my clients vs pressing.  I was a little more challenged by using the forearm to compress the IT I found it requires more from me physically than a few of the ways that i am familiar with.  But I will continue to work with it to improve hon my skill set.  I love the outer low leg compression style i found this great and really enjoyed giving it.

Actually the IT band compression technique does not require much physical strength if done correctly. The trick is to lean with your forearm as close as possible to the IT band while pulling a little bit towards you. You really have to put your weight into your arm so that you get a firm fix between your forearm and your thigh and the IT bands. Then you just lean forward with your body. This body leaning is what accomplishes the compression, and it doesn’t take much strength at all. Try it again. Smile

Complete Thai Massage MODULE Session 7 notes

I love the explanation of looking at the feet to tell the story of their hips.  For me it makes sense and i have implemented this into my looking at the beginning of a session and know more of what, where, how i may need to work.   My client loved the figure 4 elephant walk.  They commented on how good it felt to receive.  I also used the my knee block of their foot/leg and one of my hands on their hip and the other on their thigh/knee. Very effective stretching technique.  I enjoyed giving the bent knee stretching. Additionally I learned a new technique First with the seated upright bent knee foot block and with the rocking of the knee in circle motions.
