Module 1

I really like the explanation , very detailed of how important is to have a good posture during the massage to prevent future injuries on my client and myself as well.  I found that placing my elbows against my knee or thighs helps to support my hands , it feels easier and more relaxed on my arms. I can play with my body weight to change level of pressure on my partner’s feet, and on the different energy lines. I have been practicing it on my partner,  and just doing this movement he almost fall asleep.

Some questions:

How many times should I do it or for how long?

Should I do a small meditation before start the massage?

Would it be a good idea to start with a foot bath ? I found it relaxing for my clients when I give Balinese and Lomi Lomi massages , and it takes like 7 min to do it.

Thanks

Alejandro

Hi Alejandro, since you signed up for the certification program, please take a moment and familiarize yourself with our certification check list:

Certification Check List

The first item on that list is to include your last name in your forum display name. Believe it or not, we have four Alejandros on our subscriber list. Smile

Here are answers to your questions:

“How many times should I do it or for how long?” – There really is no limit or rule. It depends on how much time you have for the session, and how much else you want to work on. If you use the Thai Foot Massage as a part of a full body session, then you would spend less time on the feet. If you do a foot-massage-only session, then you can spend more time on the techniques.

“Should I do a small meditation before start the massage?”  –  That’s a very personal thing. I never make recommendations for this in my courses because some people get freaked out by the concept of meditation, some are afraid it conflicts with their religious values, and some try to turn the session into part of their spiritual practice, and some don’t want to get advice about their spiritual practices. So I leave this up to the individual what they prefer and what they feel comfortable with or drawn to.

“Would it be a good idea to start with a foot bath?”  –  Many of the better shops in Thailand actually do this. It is certainly a nice touch and also good for hygiene. I like it when I get a foot bath before the session.

Thank you so much for the quick answer, I will take them on count. I am practicing the second module today.  I will write later on. Internet here is a bit slow (really slow sometimes).

Thanks again

Module 2

This video focuses on the soles of the feet in the supine position. Learn how to use your thumbs, knuckles, and forearms  to work on the feet in a variety of positions.

I practiced on my partner’s right foot first and facing up. I worked using the first technique showed on this module, with both hands squeezing the foot, working on the 3 energy lines up and down, using my body weight several times. My partner said it is very relaxing. After this I use the knuckle of my middle finger and press on 4 different points on the energy lines going up and down too. Then I wanted to try using 3 knuckles of 2nd, 3th and 4th fingers on the same energy lines. Then I used my forearm and rolled on the sole of the foot. I used the weight of my body to add more pressure in every technique. I repeated on the left foot.

Overall, I found very helpful using my body weight in every technique, and my partner asked for more pressure and I was able to add more. My partner really like it and said it was very relaxing.

Thanks

The body weight is one of the most important elements in all Thai Massage. It gives you more power with less effort and prevents you from wearing out your body. It is THE method for prolonging your career.

Module 3

In this video we are working in the supine position, and you will learn one of my favourite foot massage manipulations.

I practiced the alternate foot rolling out technique where I have to move my upper body in a circular way, it was a bit difficult at the beginning but after a while I got the rhythm of the movement, I worked out the 3 energy lines on the sole of the foot and I went up to the knee or a bit under it.

Then I went to the top of the foot to work on the small depression and start to bring them forward to stretch them.  I included a back and forward movement too , my partner said it stretch the foot quiet well. Then I worked on each energy line of the top of the foot, doing circles with my thumbs 1st and 2nd lines and fingers on 3th and 4th lines with variable pressure. Then with the heel of my hands on the same lines. After this, I worked on the instep of the foot with my thumbs from ankle to the big toe, I tried as well sliding with my thumb the same direction then under the bone of the ankle (the groove, I think? ) . Then I worked on the outside edge of the foot with my 3 last fingers from ankle to small toe in circular motion. Then pull the foot several times. After this, I used my thumb and index finger to work around the ankle (the grooves), sliding it up several times.

I practiced working on the Achilles tendons , the sides and on it too, with my thumbs in circular motion and pulling it.

At the end I found these techniques are really helpful for me and my client (s) . I feel less pressure on my writs , and using my body weight I add a good pressure on the area worked. My partner loved it, good pressure, very relaxing and felt the feet more flexibles after the treatment.

Thanks

You don’t need to explain in such detail how you are doing each technique. Smile Just write about how your practice sessions are going, feedback from your partner, how it feels to you, how you are using it, what you like about it or what’s more difficult etc. No need to report on every technique! Smile

Module 4

In this video you will learn how to use your forearms to work on the soles of the feet with
the client in the side position.
Next I show you how to work the soles of the feet with your forearms and elbows with the client in the prone position. You will also learn two ankle stretches in the same position.
Finally you will learn how to work on the soles of the feet with the client in the prone position. You will use your knees, feet and fists.

I enjoyed using different positions to be able to use my elbow on the sole of the foot. My partner could feel the pressure and facing down position he felt more confortable. I stretched the Achiles tendon very well . I found using my knees on sole of the feet very comfortable as well as with my feet ( I use this technique with shiatsu)  and my fists, I can use my body weight to change the pressure easily.

My partner found these movements very strong yet very relaxing. After this session he felt the feet more flexible.

Thanks again

These are all the “power tools” which make foot massage so much easier than just using the thumbs, which is often the case in western foot reflexology styles.

Module 5

I would like to check first the range of motion of the feet and legs , it is really important , maybe there are new therapist or massage enthusiasts than are not aware of this, to prevent injuries on a client, family and friends. Good advice.

I tried the different movements showed on this module, bending the feet in the 6 different positions, and the variations as well. I tried on different partners , one that was very flexible she is a professional dancer and does yoga too. So, it was easy to do the bending, but I had to be carefully because she is very flexible too and less body mass, I had to adjust the level of pressure and body weight on each movement, but she said it was comfortable and relaxing too.

On my second partner a male, he doesn’t exercise much, so he doesn’t have much flexibility on the hips, legs and foot, but it was fine , I had the opportunity to practice the variations showed on this module. I had to adjust the body weight and pressure on each moment, and not to put too much and cause injuries. After practicing several times, I feels more confident and I did the movement of this module first , then I joined the other modules to do a small sequence or routine.

I am more aware of my posture during my practices too, and not to cause any injuries on myself either.

Thanks

It sounds like you have a good intuitive approach with your practice of the Thai foot massage.

Thanks , I always check first limitations, contraindications, expectations of my clients, depending on the treatment they are going to receive. Still more to learn Laugh

Module 6

I practiced the circular movements and its variations in case I have clients with move limitations, luckily I have 2 friends that are different ( same on my module 5) so after work I can work on them in different days, and I fell the differences between them , one that is really flexible I can’t improve it, but says it feels relaxing; the other one says feels more flexible and very relaxing after the practices.

I feel more confident doing the whole sequence, I did in both of my clients or partners what I have learn so far , keeping good posture and been aware of my clients limitations at the same time. At the end, they said have a good experience so far.

Thanks

And this good experience is going to get much better once you get through the entire course. I get foot massage a lot more than Thai Massage. It is so convenient and I love the feeling of it. Good foot massage is something which you don’t find that often in the western world. I think it has an excellent potential.

Module 7

Very nice video , I like how you explain the different ways to use the fingers to press or massage in different ways on the sole of the foot, I found that supporting my index finger with my thumb is really helpful and using more than one finger make them less tired . I like that I can go in different direction. My partner like it very much, he sais it is very strong but relaxing , and it feels nice when in do it in the middle of the foot. I massage the whole foot and practiced every technique.

Thanks

Alejandro

Module 8

I like that you explain very well how we can adjust the massage from a reclined chair, to a massage couch or to a bed on the floor, and how to place the legs of the client to not overwork our hands , I tried on my partners and it is very helpful.  I used the heels of my hands, my knuckles, my fingers and fist to work on the side of the heel and on the sole of the foot, this time using a massage oil , my partner said it felt very nice, good pressure and the oils helps the dry skin too. I practiced on the floor on a my shiatsu mattress and on my massage couch to see which one is better, I think on the floor is more convenient, I can use my body weight more efficient, not just only on this module but in general. It’s very helpful to use my thigh to support my hands.

Thanks

Module 9

Very nice technique using on the toes, I practiced on my partners using massage oil (sweet almond oil) . It is a good addition to complement with the other video that use oils. I started with the massage on the toes, then the top of the foot with both hands using my body weight, the movement called horse gallop is very nice to do it and to receive too, I can work easily on the entire top of the foot. It is very relaxing according to my partners ( a woman and a man to have different opinion and experience). They enjoyed the lower leg and knee massage too. I practiced on my massage table, before it was on a bed , but I have a mattress I use for shiatsu , I will try on the last one and see how it work. On the massage table , it was good , but I couldn’t work very well on the back of the leg. If I feel better on the mattress , I am going to start with the client facing down , then facing up to finish with the lower leg and knee massage.

Thanks

Alejandro
