Once I had a couple who always booked one entire Sunday with me. They had to drive a couple of hours to get to me. The man was in his late fifties and could barely walk. He had to quit his teaching job, could hardly leave the house, needed constant attention, had undergone loads of operations and was pumped full of medication which was not helping much. His legs were shriveled and his thigh muscles were tight like steel cables. His wife and myself had to help him lie down on the floor mat since he could not manage to do that himself.
When I saw the shape he was in, I thought "What in the world could I do to help this man?" I honestly didn't think that I could affect any serious change in his condition, and definitely not in a two hour Thai Massage session.
Well, I was wrong. He responded very well to the treatment, and they came every weekend. After several sessions his walking improved considerably, and after a couple of months he was able to go on extended walks, work in the garden and start working again.
To this day I don't really know how it happened. It couldn't have been just some fancy technique. I have to say I really tried my best. I did Thai Massage, energy work, nutritional counseling, psychological work, and even gave him exercises to do.
But I think in the end it was his and his wife's deep faith that what I was doing was exactly what he needed. They were convinced that I could help him and that he was going to improve. And that's what happened. It was one of those cases where you don't know who is doing more of the healing - the therapist or the client.
It showed me the power of the mind, the power of faith, and it showed me that literally anything is possible, if we don't get in the way by deciding that it cannot be done.
