Hi everyone, my name is Meagan and I currently live in WA state in the USA. Several years ago, I decided to move from Washington state where I was born and raised to the enchanting country of Thailand. Having never been there before, I'd say I was simply going on some faith, positive experiences eating Thai food, some good reviews I'd read about living in Thailand as an expat, as well as plenty of ESL teaching jobs.

I immediately fell in love with the weather, the sea, and the laid back way of the locals. I decided not that long after I arrived, that I wanted to learn about Thai Massage after reading how many schools there were in Thailand. Since I was really into practicing yoga at that time, I was excited to learn how much yoga related to Thai Massage. I found Shama's Healing Thai Massage program and decided it was the best option for me to learn Thai Massage, and was an added bonus being remote.

I moved around quite a bit when I was living in Thailand, and I never really had a usual person to practice on, and I was also studying to be a yoga teacher which took up a lot of my extra time so I didn't get to dive into the course right away like I thought I might. I decided I didn't really want to teach ESL full time to support myself, and I eventually decided to move back to Washington State so I could live with family while I could work only part time and study yoga online.

Time went by as I studied as other things caught my interest, and I drifted away from yoga and stopped practicing completely. It has been only recently that I thought about returning to learning Thai Massage since I never gave it a full chance because of prioritizing other things in the past, and I have time for it now. I am ready to give it a go and hopefully get the international certification. I look forward to reading your posts and learning all I can being enrolled in the Complete Thai Healing Massage course. Thanks for reading and many blessings to you. 🙂

Hi Meagan, your story sounds a little bit like my own. I also visited Thailand for the first time in 1999 and immediately fell in love with the country, the people, and Thai Massage.

But I just stayed in Thailand, got involved with Thai Massage full time, married a Thai woman who is also a Thai Massage therapist and teacher, and started Thai Healing Massage Academy. 24 years later, I am still at it full-time. Laugh

Hi Shama, thanks for responding, that's an awesome story. 🙂 Did you come to Thailand from the USA? If so, where? I really miss Thailand, especially this time of year when the weather in Washington state is cold. I hope to someday go back at least to visit. It really was my second home. 🙂

Yes, I came to Thailand from Austin, Texas, which was my home base. It was supposed to be a vacation, but it turned into my permanent home.

Oh wow, that's awesome and a little funny how that can happen. 🙂 Did you buy a one way ticket too? That's what I did, and I didn't know if or when I would be back, haha. I had the intention to stay for my whole life at one point, but it turned out after a few years I decided to come back. I'm so glad it worked out well for you there. 🙂

To be honest, since this happened 24 years ago, I don't remember if my first ticket was a one-way one. It probably wasn't because my first trip was supposed to be a vacation, and I had never heard of Thai Massage yet at that time. It all started to fall into place once I arrived. Smile

True, that was quite a while ago and probably difficult to remember exactly. Well, what matters is that it all worked out. 🙂
