Hi I’m Gerry Grundy born in Switzerland in 1945. When I was 25 I migrated to Australia not speaking English not knowing any body 2 suitcases and there I was. I worked on my trade as a painter and decorator for 9 Month then started my own business which I expanded quickly into home addition and renovations after 6 Years in Melbourne I moved up to Queensland in1976 onto a little farm with may wife the farm was a lifestyle 150 acres of hard work not much of income home reno had to carry us financially so I had 2 jobs. It was hard but a good life. I was never shy of work but in 1990 I did something to my back and it didn’t like it medicals in dose days the best they could do was a CT scan but of course they couldn’t see anything I ended up with Commonwealth Rehab and I have to say they were very helpful in does days. With their help I could retrain in an other activity but what??? A book jumped at me in the bookshop Aroma therapy and that was it, so I learned first Swedish then remedial massage and went on foot reflexology, Bowen therapy, dowsing for healing and on and on with energy work cet. I started my own little massage business in town Nambour on the Sunshine coast and worked for 10 Years still having the farm but the farm work was getting harder on me so in the Year 2000 I stoped the massage and one Year later I lost my wife on cancer, one Year of caring even with my health knowledge it was not easy.
After two Years I found a new partner and we moved down to Tasmania new start but back to the old job home renovations. In 2005 I retired and got into photography which was my dream sins I left school (in does days you had to learn a trade where you could earn money). So for the last six Years I could do what I really like.
One Year ago I moved to Thailand by my self (don’t want to go into the story of the los of my partner not nice) but for me new beginning again.
Found new partner and guess what is she doing she has a Thai massage business oops!! yea that’s where I landed first I didn’t want to get involved but after a wile I needed to do something.
Now we have three shops around 15-20 workers employed at the moment we are restructuring the business part and I have been given the job of evaluating the workers, I have a good knowledge about massage but not in Thai massage I want to learn Thai massage so I know how it works and what it is and I know I have to become the best because the boss has to be the best then the workers will accept you, for oil massage I have proved my self already.
So this is why I enrolled in this Academy, from the best you will become the best. (As you know I never shy away from hard work).
I know I can’t work in Thailand as a retiary but I can give people a job.
I have the trust and confidence with Shama and his Academy that I become a very good Thai masseur.
Thank you Shama for taking me on(sssshhhh I’m now 72) cheers Gerry Grundy.
Hi Gerry and welcome to our forum. Thank you for your extensive biography. It’s always good to know where people are coming from.
Interestingly enough I had another student from Canada who was about your age. He used to live in Ko Samui, and he was married to a Thai woman who was a massage therapist as well. They opened a massage shop and school in Ko Samui. He bought my course for the same reasons as you did, and he told me that even his wife learned a lot from it.
Later they both moved to Canada and established a successful massage practice and school on Victoria island.
