My Thai Massage Credo

We all know something worth sharing

I am sure that every Thai massage practitioner and teacher knows something special that is worth sharing. We all have our different styles, and naturally they work best for us and we attract people who resonate with what we do. And at the same time it is so important to remain open minded and acknowledge that what other people do or teach is equally right and important in their world, even if it conflicts with our personal style.

Beware of the ego

In the world of Thai massage, other healing arts and yoga some people are more willing to share than others. I think the majority are very open minded, but there is one attitude that I have sometimes seen both in the massage community and the yoga community. Some people develop an ego around their style, and they say: Oh, I have studied with this great guru, I can’t tell you the technique, it’s proprietary, it’s a secret, you have to take the course yourself. They are convinced that their style is better than yours, and their teacher is better than all the others.

Thai massage can only grow if its practitioners grow

That’s one way to look at things, but personally I prefer another way. If we all share and exchange and learn from each other, then we will feel inspired and connected. If all of us know more about Thai massage, then we will all be better, and Thai massage will be a more evolved healing art. No healing arts system exists in a vacuum. It only exists in the skill and dedication and consciousness of it’s practitioners and teachers. So if we get better, the entire system gets better.

Sharing is inspiring

We all have the right to have our own opinions and styles and preferences, but we have to recognize that our opinions are nothing more but our opinions – not the absolute truth. If we segregate and protect our styles too much, we end up with another kind of religion. But if we welcome the input, knowledge and opinions of others, and share freely, we can all benefit from the inspiration and personal growth together, and Thai massage or any kind of healing art will be better for it.

And this is just my opinion.
